Using the 24-Hour Number Line
A 24-hour clock is a way of telling time in which the day
runs from midnight to midnight and is divided into 24 hours.
Therefore, on a 24-hour clock, 13:00 is 1:00pm, 14:00 is 2:00pm,
and so on.
After introducing children to the concept of a 24-hour clock,
repeat the above activities in this guide using this new format.
Try asking a mix of story-based situations to further embed
the concept.
By using both the 1-12 and 13-24 number
lines together you can create unlimited
time word problems. For example: “If you
caught the train at 11:00 and arrived at
your destination at 14:30, how long was
your journey?”
Encourage children to create their own
time word problems for their peers to
try out.
