Overview

This document is an operating instructions manual for Havells Oil Filled Radiators, specifically models OFR 9 FIN, OFR 11 FIN, and OFR 13 FIN. These devices are designed for household indoor use to provide heating.

Function Description

The Havells Oil Filled Radiator is a heating appliance that uses oil as a heat transfer medium. It features multiple heating modes, including Low, Med, and High, allowing users to adjust the heat output according to their needs. Additionally, some models are equipped with an additional PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) fan function for convection warm air, which can be activated by pressing a dedicated fan switch. The appliance includes a thermostat knob for setting and maintaining the desired room temperature. It also incorporates safety features such as an overheat protection system that automatically shuts down the OFR if parts become excessively hot, and a built-in tilt-over switch that turns off the unit if it is accidentally toppled forward, backward, or sideways. The OFR will resume operation automatically once returned to an upright position.

Important Technical Specifications

The Havells Oil Filled Radiators operate on a 230 V, 1 Phase AC, 50 Hz power supply. The wattage varies by model and heating mode:

  • OFR 9 FIN:
    • Low: 800 W
    • Med: 1200 W
    • High: 2000 W
    • Additional PTC (Fan): 400 W
    • Total Max Wattage: 2400 W
  • OFR 11 FIN:
    • Low: 1000 W
    • Med: 1500 W
    • High: 2500 W
    • Additional PTC (Fan): 400 W
    • Total Max Wattage: 2900 W
  • OFR 13 FIN:
    • Low: 1000 W
    • Med: 1500 W
    • High: 2500 W
    • Additional PTC (Fan): 400 W
    • Total Max Wattage: 2900 W

The appliance is equipped with castor wheels for easy mobility and a cord storage area at the front.

Usage Features

The OFR is designed for straightforward operation. Before use, the castor wheels must be assembled. The appliance should always be placed on a stable and flat surface to prevent damage and ensure safe operation.

Controls and Indicators:

  • Carry handle (A): For moving the OFR.
  • Power switch (B): To turn the unit on/off and select heating modes (Low, Med, High).
  • Thermostat knob (C): To set the desired room temperature. Rotate clockwise to 'Max' for high heat and adjust as needed.
  • Front cover (D): Protects internal components.
  • Cord storage (E): For winding the power cord when not in use.
  • Radiator fins (F): The heating elements of the radiator.
  • Castor wheels (G): For mobility.
  • PTC fan (H): Provides convection warm air (on applicable models).
  • Fan switch (I): To activate the PTC fan function.

Operating Instructions:

  1. Assembly: Assemble the castor wheels by attaching the 'U'-shaped bolts to the flange between the first and second fins (near the front cover) and securing them with wing nuts. Then, align the shaft of the castor to the hole of the castor mounting plate, insert the screw, and secure with the wing nut. Repeat for the rear castors, mounting them between the last two fins. Ensure wing nuts are not overtightened to avoid damage.
  2. Placement: Place the OFR on a flat and stable surface.
  3. Power Connection: Set the power switch to '0' (Off) and the thermostat to 'Min' (low). Insert the plug into a properly earthed socket-outlet.
  4. Heating Activation: Rotate the thermostat knob clockwise to 'Max' (high). Then, use the power knob to select the desired heating mode: "low heat," "medium heat," or "high heat."
  5. Temperature Adjustment: To change the room temperature, reset the thermostat position.
  6. Fan Function (if applicable): To activate the convection warm air function, press the fan switch located on the front of the oil heater.
  7. Shutting Down: To completely shut down the OFR, turn all controls to the off position and remove the plug from the socket outlet.

Safety Precautions:

  • Do not leave the OFR unattended while in use. Always unplug it when not in use.
  • Avoid using extension cords as they can overheat and pose a fire risk.
  • If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a Havells authorized service center.
  • Do not insert fingers or foreign objects into ventilation or exhaust openings.
  • Do not block air intakes or exhaust openings.
  • Keep combustible materials (furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, curtains) at least 75 cm away from the front and 30 cm away from the sides of the OFR.
  • Do not use the OFR in wet or damp locations, or where it may fall into water.
  • The OFR is hot when in use; avoid touching hot surfaces with bare skin. Use the handle when moving.
  • Do not cover the OFR to prevent overheating.
  • Do not locate the OFR immediately below a socket-outlet.
  • Do not supply the appliance through an external switching device (e.g., timer) or a circuit that is regularly switched on and off by the utility, to avoid hazards from inadvertent resetting of the thermal cutout.
  • Do not disassemble the OFR.
  • Operate the OFR only in an upright position with wheels on the bottom and controls on the top.
  • The appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities without supervision.
  • The electrical voltage must match the rating label on the appliance.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of the OFR.

Cleaning:

  1. Always remove the plug from the socket outlet and allow the OFR to cool down completely before cleaning.
  2. Wipe the OFR with a soft, damp (not wet) cloth.
  3. Do not immerse the OFR in water.
  4. Do not use any cleaning chemicals such as detergents and abrasives.

Storage:

  • To store the OFR, wind the power cord around the cord storage provided at the front of the unit.
