Calibrating a triggering 3D touch probe
The touch probe system must be calibrated
l
for commissioning
l
after a stylus breaks
l
when the stylus is changed
l
when the probe feed rate is changed
l
in case of irregularities, such as those resulting from machine
heating.
During calibration, the control finds the “effective” length of the stylus
and the “effective” radius of the ball tip. To calibrate the 3D touch probe,
clamp a ring gauge with known height and known internal radius to the
machine table.
To calibrate the effective length
Set the datum in the tool axis such that for the machine tool table, Z=O.

Select the calibration function for the touch probe length.
If necessary, enter the tool axis, for example Z.
Move the highlight to DATUM.
Enter the height of the ring gauge, for example 5 mm

Move the touch probe to a position just above the ring gauge. I

If necessary, change the displayed traverse direction.

The 3D touch probe contacts the upper surface of the ring gauge.
