Cleaning after off-road driving
Clean the vehicle thoroughly and as soon as possible after driving off-road, particularly
after muddy conditions. For cleaning instructions refer to chapter 10. Areas on your
vehicle that will require extra attention are as follows:
• Do not let mud remain dry on the vehicle as it becomes abrasive and can damage
paint, glass, seals, bearings and brake components. If left to build up, mud can
seriously affect the air ow through and over mechanical components. This may
cause overheating and failure of parts, especially in the engine compartment.
• Clean the tyre treads.
• To maintain proper cooling air ow, ensure the radiator core and the area around
the radiator is cleaned.
• Check the radiator and cooler cores for blockage (sand, silt, etc).
• Clean the underside and mechanical parts of the vehicle, particularly the
following areas:
– Driveshafts, including sealing bellows.
– Front brake callipers, pads and discs.
– Front suspension.
– Clutch fork sealing bellows.
– Rear brakes.
– Rear suspension.
– Fuel tank.
• The wheels must be removed to clean all mud and stones from the brake callipers,
and to check brake pad wear.
• Ensure the breathers for the axles and fuel tank are tted and undamaged.
Maintenance and off-road driving
Proper maintenance at all times ensures that the warranty remains valid, repair costs
are kept to a minimum, vehicle performance and capabilities remain high, and driver
and passenger safety is maintained.
If driving your vehicle off-road to a great extent, it is recommended that you have the
chassis inspected more frequently.
The maintenance intervals recommend in the Service/warranty booklet are dependent
on the severity of the operating conditions. Therefore, under extreme operating
conditions, e.g. driving on unsurfaced roads (with thick dust or mud accumulation etc. are
prevalent), additional maintenance operations, e.g. changes of engine oil, oil lter and
air lter element and checking of brake pads; should be performed at shorter intervals.
Refer to the Service/warranty booklet for details. Your Holden Dealer will inform
you which additional service is required between the normal service intervals after
consideration of the specic operating conditions of your vehicle.
