Operating notes
• Do not go from P or N to R or D with the accelerator pedal depressed.
• When driving down a long hill, reduce your speed and select a lower range.
The engine will provide a braking effect. Remember if you ride the brakes, they
may overheat, resulting in reduced performance. This is particularly important
when towing.
• Be careful when accelerating, shifting up, shifting down or braking on a slippery
surface. The abrupt change in engine speed, such as sudden acceleration or
engine braking, could cause the drive wheels to spin or skid.
• Do not depress the accelerator pedal with the brakes on in either L, 2, 3, D or R.
This will overheat the transmission.
• Do not use the accelerator pedal to hold the vehicle on a slope, use the brakes.
• Do not coast the vehicle in N as this lessens your control and the engine
braking power.
• Always slow down in gusty crosswinds.
• If the vehicle has been unused for an extended period of time, allow the engine to
idle in the P (park) position for several minutes before driving.
• For checking of the transmission uid, refer to Transmission operation in chapter 7.
