AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
3
LEVEL
The automatic transmission uid level will be checked by your Holden Dealer when
the vehicle is serviced. If an oil leak is seen before the service is due you should
consult a Holden Dealer as soon as possible. The transmission uid level should be
checked and the uid replaced at the intervals shown in the Maintenance schedule of
the Service/warranty booklet.
Refer to General specications in chapter 8 for automatic transmission uid type. You
can buy this uid from your Holden Dealer.
Checking transmission uid level
Note Over lling can cause foaming and loss of uid. A low uid level can cause slipping
in the transmission. In either case, transmission damage can result.
To check the transmission uid level, preform the following:
1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface.
2. Set the park brake and start the engine in P (park).
3. With the service brakes applied, move the shift lever through all of the gear ranges
until it is returned to P (park).
Note Transmission uid level checks must be performed with the vehicle at
normal operating temperatures. Inspections at any other temperatures should
only be considered to be reference checks and may not reect the actual
uid level.
4. Remove the dipstick that is located at the rear of the engine compartment on the
right (petrol HFV6) or the left (diesel) side of the vehicle.
5. Wipe it clean and push it back in until the cap seats.
6. Pull out the dipstick and read the uid
level. The level should be between the
two marks in the hot range.
Note In very cold weather check
the uid only after the vehicle
has completely warmed up.
Add just enough uid to ll the
transmission to the full mark.
Do not overll.
Adding transmission uid
Use only Holden specied automatic transmission uid. Refer to Specications in
chapter 8 for the correct type.
1. Add the uid in the dipstick tube (the same opening as the dipstick is stored in).
2. Wait one minute for the oil to settle (clean up any spilt uid).
3. Check the oil level after lling as per the above procedure.
If the transmission uid requires constant topping up, it could indicate that a fault exists.
Contact your Holden Dealer immediately.
