TOW AND LOAD
9-3
NOTES ON LOADING THE VEHICLE
• Place heavy objects in the rear tray area as far forward as possible against the
forward end of the tray. When stacking objects, place the heavier objects at the
bottom. Unsecured objects in the rear tray area could be thrown forward with great
force during heavy braking or in an accident.
• Heavy objects can slip when the vehicle is braking heavily or driven around a bend,
and the handling of the vehicle may change.
• Do not place objects on the dashboard above the instrument panel. They are
reected in the glass, obstruct the driver’s view and may be thrown through the
vehicle during manoeuvring.
• Driving with a roof load increases the sensitivity of the vehicle to cross winds and
affects vehicle handling owing to the higher centre of gravity of the vehicle.
• Do not place objects in the area where the airbags inate. Objects can cause injury
if the airbags are deployed.
WARNING
Loaded roof cross bars alter the handling of the vehicle due to a change in the
centre of gravity. Do not drive at high speeds, avoid hard braking, abrupt swerving
or sharp steering.
Always drive carefully when:
• Cornering or
• driving in cross winds.
ROOF CROSS BARS
3
Distribute the load evenly and secure tightly with straps so that it cannot slip. Roof loads
alter the handling of a vehicle, due to a change in the centre of gravity. When carrying
loads on the roof cross bars, avoid hard braking, abrupt swerving or sharp steering.
WARNING
The load, including the weight of the roof bars, must not exceed:
• 50 kg space cab, single cab.
• 100 kg crew cab.
Distribute the load evenly.
Note Remember the weight of the roof bars and its load must be included when
calculating the total load.
