SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM
AIRBAGS
Operation
The vehicle is equipped with driver and
front passenger airbags. They operate as
a pair and are deployed simultaneously.
An operating noise may be heard and
a small amount of smoke-like gas is
released. The gas is harmless and does
not indicate malfunction or re.
The airbags will then deate – the whole
process will only take a moment.
WARNING
• Airbags are part of the ‘Supplemental
Restraint System (SRS)’ as they
assist, but do not replace seatbelts.
Airbags do not deploy in every
accident. Various factors dictate
whether they deploy including speed,
angle of collision and object hit.
Airbags are not designed to inate if
the vehicle is hit from the rear or is
involved in a rollover. Seatbelts must
be worn by all passengers whenever
the vehicle is moving.
• Airbags inate with great force. If you
are too close to an inating airbag it
may cause injury. Seatbelts help keep
you in position for airbag ination in
the event of a collision.
An impact caused by dropping into a large pothole or depression in the road may
or may not deploy the airbags. Seatbelts (by law) must be worn by all passengers
whenever the vehicle is moving.
The AIRBAG warning light on the instrument panel ashes 7 times when the ignition
is switched on. This is to indicate that the airbags are operational. If the light does
not ash when the ignition is switched on, or if it illuminates when driving, this may
indicate that there is a fault in the airbag system. Consult your Holden Dealer as soon
as possible.
If the airbag system is handled incorrectly it can be set off for up to 15 seconds after the
ignition has been switched off and the battery disconnected, and cause injury. Follow
proper service procedures and make sure that the person performing the work for you
is qualied to do so.
After activation the whole airbag system will have to be replaced.
The system should also be inspected by your Holden Dealer if the steering wheel or
dashboard area is scratched, cracked or damaged.
