Chapter 7
WEEKLY CHECKS
UNDER BONNET CHECKS cont.
ENGINE OIL
Engine oil level
Check the oil level weekly.
The level is checked with the dipstick. Refer to Under bonnet layout previously in this
chapter for engine oil dipstick location.
Checking the engine oil level
Check the level when the oil is warm,
such as when stopping for fuel.
The vehicle must be on level ground.
1.
After switching off the ignition, wait at
least 10 minutes for the oil to settle.
2.
Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean
with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Insert the dipstick rmly all the way
down, pause for several seconds then
withdraw the dipstick and look at the
oil level on it.
3.
If the level is lower than the ADD mark, top up with enough oil to reach the UPPER
mark. Take care not to add too much, as the reading should never be over the
UPPER mark.
Adding engine oil
For engine oil specication, refer to Specications in chapter 8.
1. Turn the engine oil ller cap anticlockwise and remove. Refer to Under bonnet
layout previously in this chapter for engine oil ller cap location.
2.
Pour the required amount of oil into the opening (clean up any spilt oil).
3. Wait a few minutes for the oil to settle, then check the oil level with the dipstick
again. If still too low, add more oil.
4.
When correct, screw the engine oil ller cap back on tightly and replace the
dipstick.
5.
If the oil level is checked when the oil is cold, do not run the engine rst. Cold oil
does not drain back into the oil pan fast enough to give an accurate reading.
Note Non-detergent and other low quality oils are specically not recommended.
The use of break-in oil, tune up compounds, friction reducing compounds and other
supplemental additives are not recommended. Their use increases costs, may be
detrimental to the operation of the vehicle and may void the New Vehicle Warranty,
to the extent that Holden considers the non-recommended uid to have affected the
specications or quality of the vehicle.
Engine oil change intervals
Refer to the Service/warranty booklet.
