Troubleshooting
PROBLEM
POSSIBLE CAUSES
SOLUTIONS
The unit does not
start
The unit is unplugged Make sure the power plug is inserted
completely into the outlet
The fuse is blown or the circuit
breaker is tripped
Replace the fuse or reset the circuit
breaker
Power failure The unit will automatically restart with
the previous setting when power is
restored
The current interrupter device is
tripped
Press the RESET button
The unit does not cool
as it should
The room temperature is below
62°F (17°C). Cooling may not occur
until the room temperature rises
above 62°F (17°C).
It is normal
The temperature sensor behind
the air filter element touches the
cold coil
Keep the temperature sensor away from
the cold coil. Contact Customer Service
The temperature control may not
be set correctly
Set to a lower temperature
The compressor stops when the
operating mode of the unit is
changed
Set the unit to COOL mode and wait
3minutes
Poor cooling and ice
forms on the cooling
coil behind the
decorative front
The outdoor temperature is below
64°F (18°C)
Set the unit to FAN mode to defrost
the coil.
The air filter may be dirty Clean the filter. Refer to the Cleaning
and Maintenance Section of this manual
The thermostat is set too cold
when cooling at night
To defrost the coil, set the unit to FAN
mode. Then set to a higher temperature
Poor cooling but no
ice forms on the
cooling coil behind
the decorative front
The air filter is dirty Clean the filter. Refer to the Cleaning
and Maintenance Section of this manual
The temperature is set too high Set to a lower temperature
The air directional louvers are
positioned improperly
Reposition the louvers for better airflow
The front of the unit is blocked by
drapes, blinds, or furniture
Clear the blockage in front of the unit
Open doors, windows, or registers
may allow cold air to escape
Close any doors, windows, or registers
The room may be too warm Allow additional time to remove the
“Stored heat” from the walls, ceilings,
floors, and furniture
The unit turns on and
off rapidly
The air filter is dirty Clean the filter. Refer to the Cleaning
and Maintenance Section of this manual
The outside temperature is
extremely hot
Set the FAN speed to high mode to
cool the cooling coils more quickly and
easily
The unit makes noises
during cooling
Air movement sound This is normal
Window vibration Poor installation. Refer to the
installation instructions or check with
the installer
