This document serves as a Vehicle Instruction Card (VIC) supplement for Honda vehicles, providing essential information regarding the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), deadlocks, seatbelt warning lights, general warning lights, driving restrictions, and key vehicle specifications and usage instructions for specific Honda models: Jazz, Civic, and CR-V.
Electronic Parking Brake (EPB)
Function Description:
The EPB replaces the traditional mechanical handbrake, designed to prevent unintentional vehicle movement. It offers enhanced convenience and safety features. The system automatically activates under certain conditions and can also be manually engaged or disengaged.
Usage Features:
- Activation: The EPB typically activates automatically. It will also engage if seatbelts are not worn or if luggage placed on seats triggers the system. For correct operation, ensure seatbelts are fastened and luggage is stored securely in the boot. To manually apply the parking brake, pull the switch labeled 'A'. Activation is confirmed by warning lamps on both the switch and the instrument panel.
- Deactivation: The EPB usually releases automatically. It can be deactivated by depressing the brake or accelerator pedal, or by manually pressing the 'A' switch. The warning lamps on the switch and dashboard will extinguish upon deactivation. It is crucial to have seatbelts fastened and no luggage on seats for proper operation.
- When Driving Away: The parking brake automatically deactivates when the vehicle starts moving. It also incorporates a hill-hold function, preventing the vehicle from rolling back for a few seconds when starting on a gradient. This allows for a smooth departure by simply driving off normally.
- Automatic Gearbox Vehicles: In vehicles with an automatic gearbox, the EPB can be applied for brief stops, such as at traffic lights, to prevent the vehicle from creeping forward. It will automatically release when the driver resumes driving.
Deadlocks
Function Description:
Deadlocks, also referred to as safelocks, are a security feature. When "Deadlock / safelock" messages appear on the instrument display after the engine is turned off, it signifies that once the vehicle is exited and the doors are locked, they are effectively deadlocked. This prevents anyone inside the car from opening the doors, even in an emergency, enhancing security.
Usage Features:
This is a standard advisory message and indicates a normal security function. No action is required from the driver regarding this message itself.
Seatbelt Warning Lights
Function Description:
A seatbelt warning light may illuminate when the engine is started. This often indicates that the EPB has auto-activated to prevent vehicle movement, particularly if seatbelts are not fastened or if luggage is detected on the seats.
Usage Features:
To deactivate these warning lights and the auto-activation of the EPB, ensure all passengers fasten their seatbelts and remove any luggage from the seats, storing it securely in the boot. This ensures both safety and proper system operation.
Warning Lights and What They Mean
Function Description:
The vehicle's instrument panel displays various warning lights to communicate the status of different systems. These lights are color-coded to indicate the urgency and nature of the message.
Usage Features:
- RED Lights: Indicate a potentially serious problem or safety issue. Immediate attention is required. Red lights may also serve as important reminders.
- YELLOW or ORANGE Lights: Suggest that a system needs servicing or repair soon. If a yellow or orange light is flashing, it is critical to contact the rental agent for advice promptly.
- GREEN or BLUE Lights: Simply indicate that a system is on or operating normally. These lights do not signify a problem.
Driving Restrictions and/or Conditions
Function Description:
