The glideslope portion of the approach mode is used to automatically
intercept, capture, and track the glideslope beam. The beamis usedto
guide the aircraft to the runway in a linear descent. Typical glideslope
beam angles vary between 2_ and 3_, dependent on local terrain. The
mode is interlocked so that glideslope capture is inhibiteduntillocalizer
capture has occurred.
With the localizer captured and outside the normal glideslope capture
limits, the PFD annunciates the following modes:
D LOC in green
D GS in white
D Any other vertical mode in use at this time is also displayed.
