5 Testing the System
5.1 Inspection and Testing
Inspection and Testing should conform to any national, regional or local standards applicable for the specific installation.
Before connecting any field wiring to the panel, the following must be tested:
5. Check the continuity of all cables (including screens).
6. Check the isolation between all cores and between cores and screen/earth.
Minimum isolation of 2 MOhm is required.
7. Check that the screen of all signal cables is not grounded to earth elsewhere in the building, and it is installed in accordance with the recommendations.
8. Check that signal cables are not running in cable trays, alongside power cables for this and other equipment.
9. Having successfully carried out the above tests, and once any faults found have been rectified, the panel is ready for connection with external cables and wiring.
5.2 Operational Checks
Perform the following operational checks:
Check that the green POWER LED lights are ON.
Check that all the status LEDs are OFF.
Before proceeding:
- Notify the facility personnel of the test so that alarm sounding devices are disregarded during the test period.
- If necessary, disable the alarm notification appliances to prevent their sounding.
Activate an Initiating Device Circuit using an alarm initiating device or an addressable initiating device on the SLC and check that all programmed active
notification appliances function. Reset the alarm initiating device, the control panel, and any other associated equipment. In voice alarm applications, confirm that
there is proper tone(s) sound during alarm conditions. Repeat the above step with each Initiating Device Circuit and each addressable device.
Remove AC power, activate an Initiating Device Circuit through an alarm initiating device or an addressable initiating device on the SLC, and check that the
programmed active notification appliances sound, and alarm indicators illuminate. Measure the battery voltage with notification appliances active. Replace any
battery with a terminal voltage less than 21.6 V DC and reapply AC Power.
Return all the circuits to their pretest condition.
Check that all status LEDs are OFF and the green POWER LED is ON.
