Do you have a question about the HORCHER UNILIFT PRO and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The UNILIFT PRO is a ceiling lift system designed to enhance mobility and freedom for individuals with limited mobility, particularly in bathrooms, senior citizens' homes, and hospitals. It can be used in various living areas, including swimming pools. The system is designed for lifting and moving patients in and out of beds, bathtubs, wheelchairs, and other situations, facilitating transfers to bathing aids and toilets. Its versatile design allows for installation in many configurations to meet diverse personal lifting needs, including recreational vehicles, bicycles, boats, and swimming pools.

Function Description:

The UNILIFT PRO is a patient transfer device that operates by lifting and lowering a primary strap. It can be controlled either with a wireless Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) or an optional wired hand control. The number of available functions depends on the specific ceiling lift model, the installed rail system, and any additional equipment. Basic functions include lifting and lowering the primary strap. Optional functions include a drive motor for forward/backward movement, left/right movement for traverse systems, special functions for carousels, track gates, or switches, and special functions for an electric patient positioner. The system can be customized with additional tracks, transversal systems, scissors crossings, or a carousel to suit individual needs.

Usage Features:

The UNILIFT PRO features a color display (optional) that shows information such as battery status and the patient's weight if the digital scale is installed. The PDA control elements include a scanner and an On/Off button. The UNILIFT PRO control elements on the PDA include Up/Down buttons for lifting/lowering, battery status display, Left/Right buttons for optional transversal drive, Patient Positioner controls (optional), Transversal Drive controls (optional), and Special Functions controls for carousel, switch, and track gate (optional). The digital scale (optional) allows for zero/tare functions and switching between kg/lbs.

To connect with the lift, the PDA is started, and the UNILIFT Control App launches automatically. The app prompts the user to scan a barcode located on the spreader bar, patient positioner, PDA charger, or another chosen location. An active connection is indicated by a blue ambient light, and the control functions then appear on the screen. All built-in functions are automatically displayed in the app.

The lift includes a mechanical emergency lowering mechanism, which is a small hole covered with a protective cap on the side of the lifter. Turning a screw clockwise with a 6mm hexagon screwdriver lowers the primary strap. An Emergency Off function is available via a red string to switch off all electrical functions. The auxiliary down feature, marked with a black label, is used in case of hand control failure.

Sling Materials:

  • Nylon: Universal, extremely durable for everyday use.
  • Mesh: Highly tear-resistant mesh fabric, suitable for swimming, fast drying.
  • Aerotex: Reduces slipping for added safety during quick transfers.
  • Parasilk: Latest fabric, kind to the skin, very strong, slides on and off easily.

Applying the Sling:

  • Sitting position: The nurse stands behind the patient, placing the sling from the shoulders down the back, past the hips to the seat. The top portion should reach the shoulders or head, and leg straps are turned from outside to inner thigh, moved as high as possible.
  • Lying position: Position the sling under the patient by lifting the upper body or by log rolling the patient onto their side, placing the fan-folded sling behind the back, then rolling the patient back and pulling the sling through.
  • Legs: Wrap the sling around and under the patient's legs, applying leg straps high and straight, close to the body for comfort and positioning. Alternatively, pull both straps under both legs and attach to outside points on the spreader bar to hold legs together.
  • Attaching to the lift: The sling is attached to the swivel bar or patient positioner using four loops or clips. All loops or clips must be attached before lifting. Slings with loops offer three different lengths (short, medium, long). Straps must be of equal length for top and bottom pairs to ensure even positioning. Long adjustment for lying position, shorter loops for sitting position. Head and shoulder straps hook on the outside of the swivel bar, leg straps on the inside. Before use, verify all straps are hooked and have equal lengths.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Checks: Visual inspection for damage or loose attachments, check for expired 12-month safety inspection, ensure patient is reachable without pulling the primary strap, verify sling suitability for the person and sling bar, and check sling condition for frays, tears, or cuts.
  • Defect Handling: If any defect in the ceiling lift or sling is discovered, it must be subjected to a safety inspection or withdrawn from use immediately.
  • Battery Charging: Charge the battery after each use.
  • Cleaning: Use a clean, damp cloth with clean water to clean the lift. Do not use strong detergents or high-pressure cleaners.
  • Sling Maintenance: Remove head support stays before washing. Machine wash slings on a normal cycle with warm water and dry on low temperature settings. Inspect slings frequently for unusual tears or wear. Replace slings immediately if torn or cut. Never attempt to repair slings.
  • Service: A yearly maintenance service by authorized personnel from Horcher GmbH / Barrier Free Lifts Inc. is recommended to ensure safety standards. A service contract is recommended for yearly maintenance. The primary strap should be replaced once a year, regardless of wear.
  • Emergency Lowering Device: If the emergency lowering device has been used, the ceiling lift must undergo a service inspection by qualified personnel before further use.
  • Troubleshooting: If the lift is not working, check if the emergency cord is pulled out, batteries are charged, barcode is readable (for PDA scanner), or the hand control plug is connected correctly (for wired hand control). If the hand control fails, the lift can be lowered via the auxiliary down button. If issues persist, contact the service department or technician.
