Summary

Safety and Electrical Connections

UV Caution

Exposure to UV radiation can be dangerous to eyes and skin. Do not access lamp when unit is switched on.

General Safety

Appliance not for persons with reduced capabilities; children must be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.

Electrical Safety

Disconnect appliances before maintenance. Product is not submersible. Avoid UV exposure through viewing lens.

Wiring Requirements

Use 3-core cable, permanent mains connection in dry enclosure, double pole switched fused spur with 3 or 5 amp fuse.

Cable Protection

Position and protect exposed cable runs from damage, especially from gardening tools, lawnmowers, children, or animals.

RCD Requirement

A 10mA or 30mA Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCD) MUST be fitted to the mains supply.

Cable Replacement

The supply cable cannot be replaced. If the cable is damaged, the unit should be discarded.

Wiring Regulations

Installation must conform to national/local wiring regulations. Consult electrician if unsure.

Winter Care

Frost Protection

Protect from frost. Drain, remove, and store unit in a dry, frost-protected area if not running year-round.

Choosing the Right Size

Pond Depth Factor

Minimum 1.2m for Koi. Shallow ponds (<0.75m) add +25% factor due to increased sunlight and warming.

Pond Location Factor

Ponds in full sunshine add +25% factor; shaded ponds are less affected by sunlight.

Climate Factor

Northern European: +0%, Southern Europe: +15%, South Africa: +35%. Affects fish activity and feeding.

Installation

Pump Headroom

The pump supplying this unit must not have a maximum head exceeding 6m (8.5 PSI, 0.6 Bar).

Unit Placement

Bioforce is pump-fed, pressurised, external filter with integral UVC. Suited for in-ground or above-ground.

Hose Connection

Use 20/25mm Cypriflex hose. Connect pump to inlet hosetail, secure with hoseclips. Avoid kinks.

Lamp Installation and Replacement

Lid Removal

Undo seven securing clips, gently remove lid. Use coin if difficulty arises.

Tube Removal

Remove central tube screw, rotate and pull. Remove quartz glass tube similarly.

Lamp Fitting

Push lamp into position with holder accessible. Re-assemble quartz tube and central tube.

Lid Fitting

Refit lid, ensure seal is clean and free of debris. Re-engage clips, tighten viewing lens.

Wiring

Mains Connection

Connect to mains supply in dry, weatherproof enclosure. Use BROWN (live), BLUE (neutral), GREEN/YELLOW (earth).

Earthing Requirement

Appliance MUST be earthed. Connections must use correct colour code for safety.

Flow Rate

Recommended Turnover

Entire pond volume should pass through Bioforce every 1.5-3 hours. Adjust flow if necessary.

Flow Rate Factors

Small hose, long runs, high pumping lift reduce output. Choose pump for required flow against full static lift.

Pump Selection

Use a pump capable of handling solids. Hozelock Cyprio Aquaforce recommended for ponds in this range.

Checking Flow Rate

Fill a known volume container, time it. Calculate flow rate (litres/gallons per hour).

Periods of Operation

Continuous Operation

Maintain filtration 24 hours a day during the fish feeding season (water temp above 10°C).

Winter Operation

Operating in winter maintains friendly bacteria and helps prevent pond icing.

Fish Stocking Density

Recommended Density

Supports up to 50cm of fish per 1000 litres (10" per 100 gallons). Introduce fish slowly.

Maturation

Biological Maturation Process

Builds nitrifying bacteria to convert waste. Takes 6-8 weeks. Do not switch UVC on during this period.

Cleaning Your Bioforce

Performance and Cleaning Frequency

Filters are efficient when foam is partly blocked. Cleaning frequency depends on pond dirtiness.

Preventing Siphon

Lift outlet pipe above filter lid before switching off pump. Unscrew viewing lens to relieve siphon lock.

Thorough Cleaning

Remove lid, squeeze foam, rinse foams in pond water. Reposition foams flat. Refit lid and clips.

Back-Flush Cleaning

Swap inlet/outlet pipes or connect waste pipe to inlet. Run pump to flush. Ensure return pipe goes to waste.

Foam Support Plate

Normally no need to remove. Remove to access biomedia, ensure it is refitted correctly.

Care of the UV Quartz Tube

Quartz Tube Cleaning

Wipe quartz tube with a soft cloth and cleaning agent (e.g., vinegar) to remove limescale.

Lamp Lifespan

Maximum lamp life is 12 months continuous use. Replace lamp after this period, even if still glowing.

Winter Storage

Storage Instructions

Remove, wash, dry unit. Store in a dry, frost-protected area with lid off for ventilation.

Clearwater Guarantee

Guarantee Conditions

12 months. Requires correct installation, operation, equipment size, and contacting help line.

Exclusions

Guarantee does not cover loss of clarity due to blanketweed.

Hozelock Cyprio 2 Year Guarantee

Guarantee Terms
