Error and Warning Messages
Introduction
This appendix lists the HP 4284A's error and warning messages with
brief descriptions and solutions, and lists the sysstem messages in
alphab etical order.
Error Messages
The HP 4284A displays error messages on the System Message Line
when a measurement error o ccurs or when an illegal op eration is
attempted. There are two categories of errors as follo ws.
Operation Errors
These errors o ccur while attempting an improp er op eration. If one
of these errors o ccur, the HP 4284A displa
ys the error number and a
message on its system message line. There are two kinds of errors in
this category.
Device-Specic Error (error numbers 1 to 32767,

These errors will set the Device-Specic Error bit (bit 3) in the
Event Status Register.
Execution Error (error numbers

These errors will set the Execution Error bit (bit 4) in the Ev

Status Register.
HP-IB Errors
These errors o ccur when the HP 4284A receiv
ed an improp er
command via HP-IB. If one of these errors o ccur, the HP 4284A
displays the warning message,

on the system
message line, check the command syntax. There are two kinds of
errors in this category.
Command Error (error numbers
