System Battery
The system battery may be replaced by removing the top cover and accessing the I/O baseboard.
To remove and replace the system battery, perform the following steps:
CAUTION Before changing your battery, save all boot configuration settings. These values will need to be
reset after changing your battery.
Step 1. If rack mounted, slide the HP Server out from the rack until it stops. (Refer to the hp9000 rp4440
Installation Guide for additional information.)
Step 2. Remove the top cover from the chassis. (Refer to “Front and Top Covers” on page 39.)
Step 3. Remove the I/O baseboard assembly from the chassis. (Refer to “I/O Baseboard Assembly” on
page 67.)
Step 4. Locate the system battery on the I/O baseboard. Remove the battery by lifting the retaining clip
and pull the battery from its socket.
Step 5. Install the new battery and replace the retaining clip.
NOTE The positive terminal of the battery is designated by the “+” sign. The battery is
installed with the “+” sign facing up.
Step 6. Replace the top cover.
Step 7. Replace the I/O baseboard assembly.
Step 8. If rack mounted, slide the HP Server all the way in until it stops.
