Evaluating color laser printers 23
Evaluation
At HP, we typically test multiple printers in various environmental conditions to evaluate engine
reliability. We run the printers to engine life and record the supplies’ life, jam rate, and misfeed
rate.
This kind of extensive, long-term testing is beyond the limits of most companies’ resources;
however, it is possible to estimate their printer’s engine reliability. One option is to compare other
printers’ duty-cycle ratings, recommended monthly print volumes, base warranty (make sure it is at
least one-year), and three-year warranty costs. When comparing the HP Color LaserJet 3800 series
printer with printers from other manufacturers, consider the following:
How easy is it to maintain the printer?
Does the printer perform consistently under various environmental conditions?
When connected to a network, does the printer print correctly every time?
Are there any paper jams or other failures during your evaluation?
