• Extend the server from the rack.
• Remove the server from the rack.
6. Remove the access panel.
7. To remove the high-performance heatsink, remove the air baffle.
8. Remove the heatsink:
a. Allow the heatsink to cool.
b. Using a T-20 Torx screwdriver, loosen the heatsink screws in the order indicated on the heatsink
label.
c. Lift the heatsink away from the system board.
d. Place the heatsink on a flat work surface.
9. Using an alcohol wipe, remove the existing thermal grease from the processor. Allow the alcohol to
evaporate before continuing.
10. Remove the thermal interface protective cover from the spare heatsink.
11. Install the spare heatsink.
a. Align the heatsink screws with the processor nuts correctly.
b. Using a T-20 screwdriver, fully tighten the four captive heatsink screws in the order indicated on
the heatsink label. Otherwise, boot failure or intermittent shutdowns might occur.
