If two trunk interfaces are connected over Ethernet, configuring VLAN ID transparent
transmission prevents the transmission devices on the Ethernet from removing VLAN IDs of
the packets. The two trunk interfaces can be considered as directly connected. For example, in
Figure 9-8 VLAN ID transparent transmission is enabled on the interfaces of Router A and
Router B, allowing PC1 and PC2 to communicate with each other.
9.3 Applications
Transparent bridging allows communication between different LANs. Transparent bridging can
be configured in four usage scenarios depending on the geographical locations and network
segments of LANs. Table 9-1 lists the four usage scenarios and selection rules.
