After the system subrack is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
5.4 Replacing a Disk Module
This section describes how to replace a disk module, including the replacement of risky disks
(disks that are not yet completely faulty) and faulty disks.
Impact on the System
During the replacement of a disk module, if system reconstruction is complete, host services
are not affected; if system reconstruction is not complete, host services are slightly affected.
Prerequisites
l The spare part of the disk module is ready.
l Huawei-certified disk modules that match the product model are used as spare disk
modules. These modules are obtained by service engineers based on the part codes of
failed disk modules.
l The disk module that you want to replace has been located.
NOTE
You can locate a component in either of the following ways:
l Locating a component based on alarms in DeviceManager: On the Alarms and Events page of
DeviceManager, view the help information and locate the component to be replaced.
l Locating a component based on the status of its alarm indicator: For details about the indicators on
different components, see indicator introduction in the Product Description specific to your product.
Precautions
l When handling a disk module, hold only its edge to prevent it from damage.
l Remove and insert a disk module with even force. Excessive force may damage the
appearance or connectors of the disk module.
l To prevent disk module damage, wait at least one minute between removal and insertion
actions.
l To prevent data loss, replace only a disk module whose Alarm/Location indicator is
steady red.
l Complete the replacement within five minutes after removing the original disk module.
Otherwise, the system heat dissipation is compromised.
l Use SmartKit to replace a risky disk (that is not completely faulty yet).
l Ensure that the spare part is inserted in to the same slot as the replaced disk module.
Otherwise, the system may work abnormally.
