Overview

This document outlines the features and functionalities of a smartwatch, covering aspects from initial setup and daily use to health monitoring and maintenance.

Getting Started

The smartwatch offers straightforward power management. To power on, simply press and hold the side button, or it will automatically power on when connected to a charger. If the battery is critically low, a prompt will appear, and the device will power off after 2 seconds. Powering off involves pressing and holding the side button for 3 seconds and selecting "Power off," or navigating to Settings > System > Power off. The device will also power off automatically if the battery runs out. Restarting can be done by going to Settings > System > Restart or by pressing and holding the side button for 3 seconds and selecting "Restart."

The watch features a touchscreen interface, supporting swipes (up, down, left, right) and touch-and-hold gestures for various operations. The side button serves multiple purposes: a single press returns to the home screen (though not during workouts), a press from the home screen enters the app list, and a 1-2 second press wakes the voice assistant. Swiping left/right from the home screen switches between screens. Swiping right on other screens returns to the previous screen. Swiping up on the home screen checks messages, while swiping down accesses the settings menu for features like Do Not Disturb, Find Phone, and alarms. Touching the screen selects and confirms actions, and touching and holding the home screen allows for changing watch faces.

Charging the device is simple: connect the metal contacts of the charging cradle to the back of the watch, place it on a flat surface, and connect the cradle to a power supply. The screen will light up, displaying the battery level. It's crucial to ensure the charging dock is dry, as it's not water resistant. A full charge takes approximately 65 minutes. Battery level can be checked by swiping down on the home screen or via the Huawei Health app.

Pairing the watch with a phone is essential for full functionality. After powering on, the watch enters a discoverable state. It's compatible with Android 5.0+ or iOS 9.0+ phones, requiring Bluetooth to be enabled. For Android 6.0+, location services must also be enabled. Huawei phones running EMUI 8.1+ support HwSynergy for enhanced connection quality, which may require access to SMS, contacts, and call logs. Upon first use or after a factory reset, users select a language before pairing, which then syncs with the phone's language. The pairing process involves downloading the Huawei Health app, adding the watch as a device, touching "PAIR," and confirming the request on the watch. A successful pairing displays an icon, and important information like date and time syncs within 2 seconds. A different icon indicates failed pairing, returning to the startup screen.

Notifications

Once enabled, the watch syncs notifications from the phone's status bar, including SMS, missed calls, calendar events, and messages from third-party social media apps like WeChat and QQ. To enable notifications, open the Huawei Health app, go to device settings > Notifications, enable Notifications, and turn on switches for desired apps. Phone settings may also need adjustment (e.g., Settings > Apps & notifications > Notifications management on EMUI 8.1.0). Disabling notifications follows a similar path in the Huawei Health app. The watch will not notify during workouts, Do Not Disturb mode, or sleep mode, but messages can be viewed by swiping up on the home screen. Chat app messages (e.g., WhatsApp chat screen) are not pushed. A Bluetooth disconnection reminder feature vibrates the watch if the connection is lost.

Changing Watch Faces

Watch faces can be changed in three ways:

  1. Touch and hold the home screen until the watch vibrates, then swipe through previews and touch to apply.
  2. On the watch, go to Settings > Display > Watch face, touch to select and install.
  3. In the Huawei Health app, go to Devices > Watch face > More, and touch "INSTALL" under a preferred watch face. It will automatically switch once installed. Alternatively, touch an installed watch face and "SET AS DEFAULT." This function may not be country-dependent, and the watch face market is only supported on Android phones.

Setting an Alarm

Alarms can be set via the watch or the Huawei Health app. Method 1 (on watch): Enter the app list, touch "Alarm," and touch the "+" icon. Set the time and repeat cycle, then touch "OK." Alarms without a repeat cycle are one-time. Existing alarms can be modified or deleted (only event alarms can be deleted). Method 2 (Huawei Health app):

  • Smart alarm: Go to Alarm > SMART ALARM. Set time, smart wakeup time, and repeat cycle. Touch "√" (Android) or "Save" (iOS). Swipe down on the app's home screen to sync. Existing smart alarms can be modified. There's only one smart alarm by default, which cannot be added or deleted. It may vibrate early if it detects you woke up before the set time, especially with HUAWEI TruSleep™ enabled.
  • Event alarm: Go to Alarm > EVENT ALARMS. Touch "Add" to set time, smart wakeup time, and repeat cycle. Touch "√" (Android) or "Save" (iOS). Swipe down on the app's home screen to sync. Up to five event alarms can be set. When an alarm vibrates, swipe right or press the side button to snooze for 10 minutes, or touch "X" to stop it. The alarm stops automatically after three snoozes or one minute of no operation. Only alarms set on EMUI 8.1/Magic UI 2.0+ phones can be synced.

Receiving Weather Reports

To enable weather reports, open the Huawei Health app, go to device settings > Weather reports, enable the feature, and select the preferred temperature unit. Viewing pushed weather reports:

  1. Weather screen: Swipe right on the watch screen to find the weather screen, showing location, current weather, temperature, and air quality.
  2. Watch face: Use a watch theme that displays weather data on the home screen.
  3. Weather app: Press the side button, enter the app list, find "Weather," and view current information, 6-hour forecasts, and 5-day forecasts (Android only). Ensure GPS and Location are enabled on the phone, and Huawei Health has Location permission. More open areas improve GPS signal. For EMUI versions earlier than 9.0, select GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks (or Wi-Fi and mobile networks) as positioning mode instead of "Use GPS only." Weather data may slightly differ from the phone due to different service providers.

Incoming Call Notifications

When connected to the phone and worn correctly, the watch vibrates and lights up for incoming calls. Calls can be rejected from the watch. If not worn, the screen lights up but doesn't vibrate. For missed calls, the watch vibrates and lights up.

Workout Monitoring

Starting an Individual Workout

On the watch:

  1. Enter the app list and touch "Workout."
  2. Swipe up or down to select a workout type or course.
  3. Touch the workout icon to start.
  4. Touch "Add" to add other workout modes.
  5. Touch the settings icon to set workout goals (distance, time, calories, or none) and reminders (interval, heart rate). Workouts can also be removed from the list. During a workout, pressing the side button pauses it. Touch the play icon to resume and the stop icon to end. Using the Huawei Health app:
  6. Select the preferred workout type on the "Exercise" screen.
  7. Touch the circle to start. The watch starts simultaneously with outdoor run, indoor run, walk, or cycle workouts initiated in the app. Workout data (duration, distance) is displayed on both devices. Results are not recorded if distance or time is too short. Hold the stop icon to end a workout and prevent battery drain.

Viewing Exercise Records

On the watch:

  1. Enter the app list, select "Workout records."
  2. Select a record to view details. Different data types are displayed for different workouts. In the Huawei Health app: Go to Health > Exercise records to view detailed records.

Workout Status

The "Workout status" app on the watch displays fitness status variations and training load over the last seven days, aiding in workout plan review and modification. It also shows recovery time, efficiency levels, peak status, training interruptions, and low efficiency levels. Training load is categorized as High, Low, or Optimal. The app primarily tracks training load and VO2max variations. Training load is collected from heart rate-tracking workout modes (running, walking, cycling). VO2max values are collected during outdoor running workouts. The watch needs VO2max values to display workout status. VO2max variation requires using Outdoor Run mode at least once a week (2.4 km within 20 minutes per workout) and at least two VO2max values with an interval of over a week. From the home screen, press the Up button, swipe to "Workout status," touch it, and swipe up to view workout status. Fitness status (VO2max) variation is a key indicator, displayed only if Outdoor Run mode is used weekly and two VO2max values are collected over a week.

Viewing Daily Activity Data

When worn correctly, the watch automatically records daily activity data, including step count, workout distance, and calories burned. Method 1 (on watch): Enter the app list, touch "Activity records" to view step count, calories burnt, workout distance, moderate to high intensity activity, and hours of activity. Method 2 (Huawei Health app): View activity data on the home screen or device settings screen. Ensure the watch is connected to the phone via the app. Fitness data resets at midnight.

Automatic Workout Detection

When "Auto-detect workouts" is enabled (Settings > Workout settings on the watch), the watch detects increased activity and prompts to start recording a workout. Users can choose to ignore or start recording. Currently, it detects running, elliptical, and rowing workouts.

Health Management

Tracking Sleep

The watch measures sleep data from 20:00 to 20:00 the next day. For example, sleep from 19:00 to 06:00 is split between the first day (before 20:00) and the second day (after 20:00). If HUAWEI TruSleep™ is not enabled, the watch uses a traditional method to track sleep stages (falling asleep, waking up, deep sleep, light sleep) and syncs data to the Huawei Health app. To enable HUAWEI TruSleep™: In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings > Health monitoring > HUAWEI TruSleep™, and enable it. This enhances sleep recognition (deep, REM sleep) and provides quality analysis and suggestions. Viewing sleep data:

  • On the watch: Enter the app list, swipe to "Sleep," and view sleep duration and naps.
  • In the Huawei Health app: Touch "Sleep" to view daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly sleep data.

Measuring Blood Oxygen Levels (SpO2)

On the watch, enter the app list, touch "SpO2," and start a measurement. "Retest" indicates completion. This function may not be supported in all countries. Readings are interrupted by swiping right, incoming calls, or alarms. For accuracy, wait 3-5 minutes after putting on the watch. Keep still, wear the watch snugly (avoiding contact with joints), ensure the heart rate sensor touches the skin without foreign objects, and keep the screen facing up. The watch also measures heart rate during SpO2 measurement. External factors like low temperature, arm movement, or tattoos can affect results. Results are for reference only and not for medical use.

Measuring Your Heart Rate

Individual heart rate measurement:

  1. In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings > Health monitoring > Continuous heart rate monitoring, and disable it.
  2. On the watch, enter the app list and select "Heart rate" to measure.

Continuous heart rate measurement:

  1. In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings > Health monitoring > Continuous heart rate monitoring, and enable it.
  2. Viewing heart rate:
    • On the watch: Enter the app list, select "Heart rate."
    • In the Huawei Health app: Go to Me > My data > HEALTH MEASUREMENTS > Heart rate. The watch displays current heart rate, a daily graph, daily range, resting heart rate, and heart rate zone. "Heart rate" can be added to watch favorites or as a card in the Huawei Health app. Continuous monitoring adjusts frequency based on workout status, providing 24/7 monitoring.

Resting heart rate measurement:

Resting heart rate indicates cardiac health, measured in a quiet, stationary, awake state, ideally after waking up. In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings > Health monitoring > Continuous heart rate monitoring, and enable it. The watch will automatically measure resting heart rate. If continuous monitoring is disabled after checking, the displayed resting heart rate in the app remains. Resting heart rate data on the watch clears at 12 a.m. "--" indicates the watch couldn't measure it. The device may not always display the exact optimal time for checking, and readings may differ slightly from actual values.

Measuring heart rate during a workout:

During a workout, the watch displays real-time heart rate and heart rate zone, and alerts if the heart rate exceeds the upper limit. For optimal training, choose workouts based on heart rate zones. To set heart rate zones: In the Huawei Health app, go to Me > Settings > Heart rate limit, then set "Calculation method" under SET HEART RATE ZONES to "Maximum heart rate percentage" or "HRR percentage."

  • Maximum heart rate percentage: Zones (Extreme, Anaerobic, Aerobic, Fat-burning, Warm-up) are calculated based on "220 - your age."
  • HRR percentage: Zones (Advanced anaerobic, Basic anaerobic, Lactic acid, Advanced aerobic, Basic aerobic) are calculated based on heart rate reserve (HRmax - HRrest). Current heart rate is visible on the watch during a workout. After a workout, average, maximum heart rate, and heart rate zone are displayed. If the watch is removed during a workout, heart rate isn't displayed but monitoring continues for a while, resuming when worn again. The watch can measure heart rate during workouts initiated via the Huawei Health app. The Huawei Health app displays heart rate graphs, maximum heart rate, or average heart rate for each workout.

Heart Rate Limit and Zones

If heart rate exceeds the upper limit for over 1 minute during a workout, the watch vibrates and displays a message until the heart rate drops or the message is cleared by swiping right. To set a heart rate limit:

  • iOS users: In the Huawei Health app, touch Device > watch icon > Heart rate limit and zones > Heart rate limit.
  • Android users: In the Huawei Health app, go to Me > Settings > Heart rate limit. An upper heart rate alert can be set between 100 and 220 bpm, effective only during active workouts.

High Heart Rate Alert

If resting or sleeping heart rate exceeds a limit for 10 consecutive minutes, the watch vibrates and displays a message. Swipe right or press the side button to clear. To set a high heart rate limit:

  1. In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings > Health monitoring > Continuous heart rate monitoring, and enable it.
  2. Touch "High heart rate alert" and set the preferred value (100, 110, 120, 130, 140, or 150 bpm).

Low Heart Rate Alert

If resting or sleeping heart rate stays below a limit for 10 consecutive minutes, the watch vibrates and displays a message. Swipe right or press the side button to clear. To set a low heart rate limit:

  1. In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings > Health monitoring > Continuous heart rate monitoring, and enable it.
  2. Touch "Low heart rate alert" and set the preferred value (40, 45, or 50 bpm). This feature is only available on Android phones.

Testing Stress Levels

To enable Automatic stress test: In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings > Health monitoring > Automatic stress test, and enable it. Viewing stress data: Enter the app list on the watch and touch "Stress" to view stress level and percentages for different stress levels. The automatic stress test is disabled during workouts.

Using Breathing Exercises

  1. Enter the app list and select "Breathing exercises." Set duration and rhythm.
  2. Touch the icon to start. Duration options are 1, 2, or 3 minutes; rhythm options are fast, moderate, or slow. After the exercise, the screen displays training effects, pre-exercise heart rate, duration, and evaluation.

Activity Reminder

When enabled, the watch monitors activity throughout the day in 1-hour increments. If no movement is detected during that period, the watch vibrates and lights up to remind you to move, promoting a balance of activity and rest. To disable: In the Huawei Health app, go to Health monitoring and disable "Activity reminder." The watch will not vibrate for notifications when Do Not Disturb is enabled or during sleep. Activity reminders are sent only between 8:00–12:00 and 14:00–22:00.

Cycle Calendar

From the watch's home screen, press the side button, touch "Cycle Calendar," and touch the edit icon. Edit or confirm the start and end of your period to improve accuracy. After input, the watch predicts the next period. This function may not be supported in all countries.

Convenient Life

Viewing and Deleting Notifications

Unread notifications are stored on the watch. View them by swiping up on the home screen or touching "Notifications" in the app list. To delete a single notification, swipe right on its content display screen. To delete all unread notifications, touch "Clear All" at the bottom of the list. A maximum of 10 unread notifications can be saved; older ones are overwritten if more than 10 accumulate. If full content isn't visible on the watch, use the phone. Notifications are automatically deleted from the watch when read or deleted on the phone.

Always On Display

When the watch enters standby, the Always On Display is shown. It's disabled by default. To enable: From the watch's home screen, go to Settings > Display > Always On Display, swipe left or right, and touch the checkmark. Currently, only preinstalled watch faces can be used for Always On Display.

Using the Stopwatch

On the watch, enter the app list, touch "Stopwatch," then touch the play icon to start, the pause icon to stop, and the reset icon to reset. Swipe right or press the side button to move it to the background. The stopwatch counts up to "99:59:59" and stops automatically when this maximum is reached.

Using the Timer

On the watch, enter the app list and touch "Timer." Select from eight presets (1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 30 min, 1, 2 h) or touch "Custom" to set a specific time. Touch the play icon to start, the pause icon to pause, and the "X" icon to exit. Swipe right or press the side button to move it to the background. The watch vibrates when the time is up. Touch the restart icon to restart the countdown and the "X" icon to exit.

Using the Flashlight

Enter the app list, touch "Flashlight." The screen lights up. Touch the screen to turn it off, then touch again to turn it back on. Swipe right or press the side button to exit.

Find My Phone

Swipe up or down on the watch's home screen and touch the speaker icon, or enter the app list and touch "Find Phone." If the phone is within Bluetooth range, it will play a ringtone (even in Silent mode). Touch the "Find Phone" screen on the watch to disable. Ensure the watch and phone are connected, the phone is powered on, and the Huawei Health app is running in the background. The phone rings for 10 seconds; if no operation, the watch prompts "Stopped ringing" and its screen turns off after 30 seconds.

Controlling Music Playback

Controlling music playback is only supported on Android 5.0+ phones. The watch can control third-party music apps like NetEase Music.

  1. In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings > Music, and enable "Control phone music."
  2. After playing a song on the phone, swipe on the watch face screen to find the music playback control screen. You can pause, resume, and switch songs.

Remote Camera Shutter

  1. Connect the watch with the phone and ensure the Huawei Health app is running in the background.
  2. On the watch, enter the app list and select "Remote shutter." The phone's camera opens simultaneously.
  3. Touch the camera icon on the watch screen to take photos. Touch the timer icon to switch between a 2-second and 5-second countdown. Swipe right or press the side button to close the camera. This feature is only supported on EMUI 8.1+ phones.

More Guidance

Do Not Disturb

Swipe down on the watch's home screen and touch the moon icon to enable Do Not Disturb mode. Alternatively, on the watch, go to Settings > Do Not Disturb. It can be set for all day or a scheduled period. When enabled, messages and notifications are not displayed, and "Raise to wake" is disabled. Alarms still vibrate and ring normally.

Adding Favorites

  1. On the watch, go to Settings > Display > Favorites, and select preferred data like sleep, stress level, heart rate, music, weather, and activity record.
  2. Swipe left or right on the home screen to check added cards. A maximum of six cards can be displayed.

Setting Vibration Strength

On the watch, go to Settings > Strength, and select "Strong," "Soft," or "None." The watch returns to the previous screen.

Turning the Screen On and Off

  • Raise to wake: In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings and enable or disable "Raise to wake."
  • Screen brightness: On the watch, go to Settings > Display > Brightness to set the level.
  • Always on Display: On the watch, go to Settings > Display > Advanced, and set the screen on time (5, 10, 15, or 20 min). After setting, swipe down on the home screen and touch the timer icon. The screen stays on for the set duration.
  • Screen sleep time: On the watch, go to Settings > Display > Advanced and set the screen sleep time (10, 15, or 20 sec). If "Sleep" is set to "Auto," the screen turns off when you tilt or lower your wrist. If the screen is turned back on within 10 seconds of turning off, the previous screen is displayed; otherwise, the home screen is shown.

Setting the Time Zone and Language

Upon first power-on or after a factory reset, a language selection prompt appears before pairing. Once paired, the watch's language syncs with the phone's. Changes to language, region, time, or time format on the phone automatically sync to the watch when connected.

  1. If the phone's language and region are supported, the watch's language matches.
  2. If the phone's language is supported but the region isn't, the watch displays the same language (e.g., Brazilian Portuguese on phone displays European Portuguese on watch).
  3. If the phone's language isn't supported, the watch defaults to English.
  4. If the phone uses a 12-hour format, the watch doesn't distinguish between morning and afternoon.

Restoring the Watch to Factory Settings

Method 1: On the watch, go to Settings > System > Reset. All data will be cleared. Method 2: In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings and select "Restore factory settings."

Updating Your Watch

In the Huawei Health app, go to device settings and touch "Firmware update." The phone searches for updates. Follow on-screen instructions.

Adjusting or Replacing the Strap

  • Adjustment: Straps have U-shaped buckles; adjust to wrist size.
  • Replacement: Carefully remove the fastener to detach the strap. Reverse the steps to attach a new one, ensuring the band/watch body fits tightly before replacing the fastener. The fasteners are small, so be careful not to lose them.

Viewing Bluetooth Name, MAC Address, Model, Serial Number, and Version

  • Bluetooth name: On the watch, go to Settings > About. "Device name" displays the Bluetooth name. Alternatively, in the Huawei Health app, the connected device's name is the Bluetooth name.
  • MAC address: On the watch, go to Settings > About.
  • Serial Number (SN): On the watch, go to Settings > About. SN is displayed next to "SN:".
  • Model: On the watch, go to Settings > About. The model name is displayed under "Model." The laser-engraved characters after "MODEL" on the back of the watch are also the model name.
  • Version: On the watch, go to Settings > About. Alternatively, in the Huawei Health app, go to device settings and touch "Firmware update."

Water and Dust Resistance Level

The watch has a 5ATM water resistance rating, but this protection is not permanent and may deteriorate over time. It can be worn while washing hands, in the rain, or swimming in shallow water. Do not wear it while showering, diving, scuba diving, or surfing. Factors that may affect water resistance: dropping the watch or other impacts, exposure to alkaline substances (soap, body wash, perfume, emulsion, oil), and use in humid, high-temperature conditions (hot shower, sauna).

Wearing Your Watch

For accurate activity, sleep tracking, and heart rate monitoring, wear the watch correctly as shown in the provided figure. The strap uses a U-shaped buckle design to prevent it from falling off. Insert one end of the strap through the buckle, then fasten. The end of the strap is intentionally bent for enhanced wearability. If skin discomfort occurs, stop using the watch and consult a doctor. Wear the watch properly for maximum comfort. The figure is for reference only.
