OPERATION
TO MOVE FORWARD AND BACKWARD
(See Fig. 8)
The direction and speed of movement is controlled by the
forward and reverse drive pedals.
• Starttractorandreleaseparkingbrake.
• Slowlydepressforward(K)orreverse(L)drivepedalto
begin movement. Ground speed increases the further
down the pedal is depressed.

TO ADJUST GAUGE WHEELS (See Fig. 10)
Gaugewheelsareproperlyadjustedwhentheyareslightly
off the ground when mower is at the desired cutting height
in operating position. Gauge wheels then keep the deck
in proper position to help prevent scalping in most terrain
conditions.
NOTE:Adjust gaugewheelswith tractorona flatlevel
surface.
• Adjustmowertodesiredcuttingheight(See“TOAD-
JUSTMOWERCUTTINGHEIGHT”inthissectionof
manual).
• Withmowerindesiredheightofcutposition,gauge
wheels should be assembled so they are slightly off
theground.Installgaugewheelinappropriatehole.
Tighten securely.
• Repeatforall,installinggaugewheelinsameadjust-
ment hole.

TO USE CRUISE CONTROL (J) (See Fig. 8)
The cruise control feature can be used for forward travel
only.
SYSTEMCHARACTERISTICS
The cruise control should only be used while mowing or
transportingonrelativelysmooth,straightsurfaces.Other
conditions such as trimming at slow speeds may cause the
cruisecontroltodisengage.Donotusethecruisecontrol
onslopes,roughterrianorwhiletrimmimgorturning.
• Withforwarddrivepedaldepressedtodesiredspeed,
pullcruisecontrollever(J)upandholdwhilelifting
yourfootoffthepedal,thenreleasethelever.
Todisengagethecruisecontrol,depressthebrakepedal
or tap on forward drive pedal.

TO ADJUST MOWER CUTTING HEIGHT
(See Fig. 9)
Thepositionoftheattachmentliftlever(A)determinesthe
cutting height.
• Putattachmentliftleverindesiredcuttingheightslot.
Thecuttingheightrangeisapproximately1to4"(25,4to
101,6mm).Theheightsaremeasuredfromthegroundto
the blade tip with the engine not running. These heights are
approximateandmayvarydependinguponsoilconditions,
height of grass and types of grass being mowed.
• The average lawn should be cut to approximately
2-1/2"(63,5mm)duringthecoolseasonandtoover3"
(76,2mm)duringhotmonths.Forhealthierandbetter
lookinglawns,mowoftenandaftermoderategrowth.
• Forbestcuttingperformance,grassover6"(152,4mm)
in height should be mowed twice. Make the first cut
relatively high; the second to desired height.
TO OPERATE MOWER
Yourtractorisequippedwithanoperatorpresencesensing
switch. Any attempt by the operator to leave the seat with
the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will
shutofftheengine.Youmustremainfullyandcentrally
positioned in the seat to prevent the engine from hesitat-
ingorcuttingoffwhenoperatingyourequipmentonrough,
rolling terrain or hills.
• Selectdesiredheightofcut.(See"TOADJUSTMOWER
CUTTINGHEIGHT".)
• Start mower blades by engaging attachment clutch
control.
