OPERATION
PURGE TRANSMISSION
CAUTION: Never engage or disengage free-
wheel lever while the engine is running.
Toensureproperoperationandperformance,itisrecom-
mended that the transmission be purged before operating
tractor for the first time. This procedure will remove any
trapped air inside the transmission which may have devel-
oped during shipping of your tractor.
IMPORTANT: SHOULD YOUR TRANSMISSION REQUIRE
REMOVALFORSERVICEORREPLACEMENT, ITSHOULD
BEPURGEDAFTERREINSTALLATIONBEFOREOPERATING
THETRACTOR.
1. Placetractorsafelyonalevelsurface-thatisclear
and open - with engine off and parking brake set.
2. Disengagetransmissionbyplacingfreewheelcontrol
indisengagedposition.(See“TOTRANSPORT”in
thissectionofmanual.)
3. Sittinginthetractorseat,startengine.Aftertheen-
gineisrunning,movethrottlecontroltoslowposition.
Disengageparkingbrake
CAUTION: At any time, during step 4, there
may be movement of the drive wheels.
4. Depressforwarddrivepedaltofullforwardposition,
holdforfive(5)secondsandreleasepedal.Depress
reversedrivepedaltofullreverseposition,holdforfive
(5)secondsandreleasepedal.Repeatthisprocedure
three(3)times.
5. Shut-offengineandsetparkingbrake.
6. Engage transmission by placing freewheel control
inengagedposition.(See“TOTRANSPORT”inthis
sectionofmanual.)
7. Sittinginthetractorseat,startengine.Aftertheengine
isrunning,movethrottlecontroltohalf(1/2)speed.
Disengageparkingbrake.
8. Drivetractorforwardforapproximately5feet(1,5m)
thenbackwardsfor5feet(1,5m).Repeatthisdriving
procedure three times.
Yourtransmissionisnowpurgedandnowreadyfornormal
operation.
MOWING TIPS
• DONOTusetirechainswhenthemowerhousingis
attached to tractor.
• Mower should be properly leveled forbest mowing
performance.See“TOLEVELMOWERHOUSING”
intheServiceandAdjustmentssectionofthismanual.
• Thelefthandsideofmowershouldbeusedfortrimming.
• Drivesothatclippingsaredischargedontothearea
thathasbeencut.Havethecutareatotherightof
the tractor. This will result in a more even distribution
of clippings and more uniform cutting.
• Whenmowinglargeareas,startbyturningtotheright
so that clippings will discharge away from shrubs,
fences,driveways,etc.Afteroneortworounds,mow
in the opposite direction making left hand turns until
finished(SeeFig.16).
• Ifgrassisextremelytall,itshouldbemowedtwiceto
reduceloadandpossiblefirehazardfromdriedclip-
pings. Make first cut relatively high; the second to the
desired height.
• Donotmowgrasswhenitiswet.Wetgrasswillplug
mower and leave undesirable clumps. Allow grass to
dry before mowing.
• Always operate engine at full throttle when mow-
ing to ensure better mowing performance and proper
discharge of material. Regulate ground speed by
selecting a low enough gear to give the mower cutting
performance as well as the quality of cut desired.
• Whenoperatingattachments,selectagroundspeed
that will suit the terrain and give best performance of
the attachment being used.
