Always observe safety rules when performing any
maintenance.
BRAKE OPERATION
Iftractorrequiresmorethanfive(5)feet(1,5m)tostopat
highestspeedinhighestgearonalevel,dryconcreteor
pavedsurface,thenbrakemustbecheckedandadjusted.
(See“TOCHECKBRAKE”intheServiceandAdjustments
sectionofthismanual.)
TIRES
• Maintainproperairpressureinalltires.(Seethesides
oftiresforproperPSI.)
• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect control
chemicals which can harm rubber.
• Avoidstumps,stones,deepruts,sharpobjectsand
otherhazardsthatmaycausetiredamage.
NOTE: To seal tire punctures and prevent flat tires due
toslowleaks,tiresealantmaybepurchasedfromyour
local parts dealer. Tire sealant also prevents tire dry rot
and corrosion.
OPERATOR PRESENCE SYSTEM AND REVERSE
OPERATION SYSTEM (ROS) (See Fig. 17)
Besureoperatorpresenceandreverseoperationsystems
areworkingproperly.Ifyourtractordoesnotfunctionas
described,repairtheproblemimmediately.
• Theengineshouldnotstartunlessthebrakepedalis
fullydepressed,andtheattachmentclutchcontrolis
in the disengaged position.
CHECKOPERATORPRESENCESYSTEM
• Whentheengineisrunning,anyattemptbytheoperator
to leave the seat without first setting the parking brake
should shut off the engine.
• Whentheengineisrunningandtheattachmentclutch
isengaged,anyattemptbytheoperatortoleavethe
seat should shut off the engine.
• Theattachmentclutchshouldneveroperateunless
the operator is in the seat.
CHECKREVERSEOPERATION(ROS)SYSTEM
• Whentheengineisrunningwiththeignitionswitchin
theengine"ON"positionandtheattachmentclutch
engaged, any attempt by the operator to shift into
reverse should shut off the engine.
• Whentheengineisrunningwiththe ignitionswitch
intheROS"ON"positionandtheattachmentclutch
engaged, any attempt by the operator to shift into
reverseshouldNOTshutofftheengine.
BLADE CARE
Forbestresultsmowerbladesmustbekeptsharp.Replace
bent or damaged blades.
BATTERY
Yourtractorhasabatterychargingsystemwhichissufficient
fornormaluse.However,periodicchargingofthebattery
withanautomotivechargerwillextenditslife.
• Keepbatteryandterminalsclean.
• Keepbatteryboltstight.
• Keepsmallventholesopen.
• Rechargeat6-10amperesfor1hour.
NOTE: The original equipment battery on your tractor is
maintenancefree.Donotattempttoopenorremovecaps
or covers. Adding or checking level of electrolyte is not
necessary.
TOCLEANBATTERYANDTERMINALS
Corrosion and dirt on the battery and terminals can cause
thebatteryto“leak”power.
• Removeterminalguard.
• DisconnectBLACKbatterycablefirstthenREDbattery
cable and remove battery from tractor.
• Rinsethebatterywithplainwateranddry.
• Cleanterminalsandbatterycableendswithwirebrush
until bright.
• Coatterminalswithgreaseorpetroleumjelly.
• Reinstallbattery.(See“REPLACINGBATTERY"inthe
ServiceandAdjustmentssectionofthismanual.)

POSITION
ENGINE "ON" POSITION
(NORMAL OPERATING)
CAUTION: Use only a replacement blade ap-
proved by the manufacturer of your tractor.
Using a blade not approved by the manu-
facturer of your tractor is hazardous, could
damage your tractor and void your warranty.

BLADE REMOVAL (See Fig. 18)
• Raisemower tohighestpositiontoallowaccessto
blades.
NOTE: Protectyourhandswithglovesand/orwrapblade
with heavy cloth.
• Removebladeboltbyturningcounterclockwise.
• Installneworresharpenedbladeasshown.
IMPORTANT: Toensureproperassembly,centerholein
blade must align with star on mandrel assembly.
• Installandtightenbladeboltsecurely(45-55Ft.Lbs./
62-75Nm).
IMPORTANT:SPECIALBLADEBOLTISHEATTREATED.
