Always observe safety rules when performing any
maintenance.
BRAKE OPERATION
Iftractorrequiresmorethanfive(5)feet(1,5m)tostopat
highestspeedinhighestgearonalevel,dryconcreteor
pavedsurface,thenbrakemustbecheckedandadjusted.
(See“TOCHECKBRAKE”intheServiceandAdjustments
sectionofthismanual.)
TIRES
• Maintainproperairpressureinalltires.(Seethesides
oftiresforproperPSI.)
• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect control
chemicals which can harm rubber.
• Avoidstumps,stones,deepruts,sharpobjectsand
otherhazardsthatmaycausetiredamage.
NOTE: To seal tire punctures and prevent flat tires due
toslowleaks,tiresealantmaybepurchasedfromyour
local parts dealer. Tire sealant also prevents tire dry rot
and corrosion.
OPERATOR PRESENCE SYSTEM AND REVERSE
OPERATION SYSTEM (ROS) (See Fig. 17)
Besureoperatorpresenceandreverseoperationsystems
areworkingproperly.Ifyourtractordoesnotfunctionas
described,repairtheproblemimmediately.
• Theengineshouldnotstartunlessthebrakepedalis
fullydepressed,andtheattachmentclutchcontrolis
in the disengaged position.
CHECKOPERATORPRESENCESYSTEM
• Whentheengineisrunning,anyattemptbytheoperator
to leave the seat without first setting the parking brake
should shut off the engine.
• Whentheengineisrunningandtheattachmentclutch
isengaged,anyattemptbytheoperatortoleavethe
seat should shut off the engine.
• Theattachmentclutchshouldneveroperateunless
the operator is in the seat.
CHECKREVERSEOPERATION(ROS)SYSTEM
• Whentheengineisrunningwiththeignitionswitchin
theengine"ON"positionandtheattachmentclutch
engaged, any attempt by the operator to shift into
reverse should shut off the engine.
• Whentheengineisrunningwiththe ignitionswitch
intheROS"ON"positionandtheattachmentclutch
engaged, any attempt by the operator to shift into
reverseshouldNOTshutofftheengine.
BLADE CARE
Forbestresultsmowerbladesmustbekeptsharp.Replace
bent or damaged blades.
BATTERY
Yourtractorhasabatterychargingsystemwhichissufficient
fornormaluse.However,periodicchargingofthebattery
withanautomotivechargerwillextenditslife.
• Keepbatteryandterminalsclean.
• Keepbatteryboltstight.
• Keepsmallventholesopen.
• Rechargeat6-10amperesfor1hour.
NOTE: The original equipment battery on your tractor is
maintenancefree.Donotattempttoopenorremovecaps
or covers. Adding or checking level of electrolyte is not
necessary.
TOCLEANBATTERYANDTERMINALS
Corrosion and dirt on the battery and terminals can cause
thebatteryto“leak”power.
• Removeterminalguard.
• DisconnectBLACKbatterycablefirstthenREDbattery
cable and remove battery from tractor.
• Rinsethebatterywithplainwateranddry.
• Cleanterminalsandbatterycableendswithwirebrush
until bright.
• Coatterminalswithgreaseorpetroleumjelly.
• Reinstallbattery.(See“REPLACINGBATTERY"inthe
ServiceandAdjustmentssectionofthismanual.)

ENGINE "ON" POSITION
(NORMAL OPERATING)
CAUTION: Use only a replacement blade ap-
proved by the manufacturer of your tractor.
Using a blade not approved by the manu-
facturer of your tractor is hazardous, could
damage your tractor and void your warranty.

BLADE REMOVAL (See Fig. 18)
• Raisemower tohighestpositiontoallowaccessto
blades.
NOTE: Protectyourhandswithglovesand/orwrapblade
with heavy cloth.
• Removebladeboltbyturningcounterclockwise.
• Installneworresharpenedbladeasshown.
IMPORTANT: Toensureproperassembly,centerholein
blade must align with star on mandrel assembly.
• Installandtightenbladeboltsecurely(45-55Ft.Lbs./
62-75Nm).
IMPORTANT:SPECIALBLADEBOLTISHEATTREATED.
