TRANSAXLE MAINTENANCE
The transmission fan and cooling fins should be kept clean
to ensure proper cooling.
Donotattempttocleanfanortransmissionwhileengine
is running or while the transmission is hot. To prevent pos-
sibledamagetoseals,donotusehighpressurewateror
steam to clean transmission.
• Inspectcoolingfantobesurefanbladesareintactand
clean.
• Inspectcoolingfinsfordirt,grassclippingsandother
materials.Topreventdamagetoseals,donotusecom-
pressed air or high pressure sprayer to clean cooling fins.
TRANSAXLE PUMP FLUID
Thetransaxlewassealedatthefactoryandfluidmainte-
nanceisnotrequiredforthelifeofthetransaxle.Should
thetransaxleeverleakorrequireservicing,contactyour
nearestauthorizedservicecenter/department.

Determinetemperaturerangeexpectedbeforeoilchange.
AlloilmustmeetAPIserviceclassificationSJ-SN.
• Besuretractorisonlevelsurface.
• Oilwilldrainmorefreelywhenwarm.
• Catchoilinasuitablecontainer.
• Removeoilfillcap/dipstick.Becarefulnottoallowdirt
to enter the engine when changing oil.
• Installthedraintubeontothevalve.
• Opendrain valve byusing a10mmwrench turning
counterclockwise.
• Afteroilhasdrainedcompletely,closethedrainvalve
turningclockwise.Usethe10mmwrenchtoapplyasmall
amountoftorquetokeepitclosed.Donotovertighten.
• Removethedraintubeandstoreinasafeplace.
• Refillenginewithoilthroughoilfilldipsticktube.Pour
slowly.Donotoverfill.Forapproximatecapacitysee
“PRODUCTSPECIFICATIONS”sectionofthismanual.
• Usegaugeonoilfillcap/dipstickforcheckinglevel.
Insertdipstickintothetubeandresttheoilfillcapon
thetube.Donotthreadthecapontothetubewhen
taking reading. Keep oil at “FULL” line on dipstick.
Tighten cap onto the tube securely when finished.
ENGINE OIL FILTER
Replacetheengineoilfiltereveryseasonoreveryotheroil
changeifthetractorisusedmorethan100hoursinoneyear.
NOTE:Ifneeded,removelowerdashcoversusingsteps
from"Lowerdashcoverremoval"sectionofthismanual.
LOWER DASH COVER REMOVAL
• Raisehood.
• Removefastenerfromlowerdashcover.
CAUTION: Removelowerdashcovercarefullytoensure
cover tabs are not broken.
• Slidelowerdashcoveruptoreleasecovertabsfrom
tapered slots in lower dash and remove.
ENGINE
LUBRICATION
OnlyusehighqualitydetergentoilratedwithAPIservice
classificationSJ-SN.Selecttheoil’sSAEviscositygrade
accordingtoyourexpectedoperatingtemperature.
NOTE:Althoughmulti-viscosityoils(5W30,10W30etc.)
improvestartingincoldweather,theywillresultinincreased
oilconsumptionwhenusedabove32°F/0°C.Checkyour
engine oil level more frequently to avoid possible engine
damage from running low on oil.
Changetheoilafterevery50hoursofoperationoratleast
onceayearifthetractorisnotusedfor50hoursinoneyear.
Check the crankcase oil level before starting the engine
andaftereacheight(8)hoursofoperation.Tightenoilfill
cap/dipsticksecurelyeachtimeyouchecktheoillevel.
