III. SLOPE OPERATION
WARNING! When loading or unloading
this machine, do not exceed the maximum
recommended operation angle of 15°.
Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedtolossofcontrolandtip-over
accidents,whichcanresultinsevereinjuryordeath.Operation
onallslopesrequiresextremecaution.Ifyoucannotbackup
theslopeorifyoufeeluneasyonit,donotmowit.
• Mowupanddownslopes,notacross.
• Watchforholes,ruts,bumps,rocks,orotherhiddenob-
jects.Uneventerraincouldoverturnthemachine.Tall
grass can hide obstacles.
• Choosealowgroundspeedsothatyouwillnothaveto
stop or shift while on the slope.
• Donotmowonwetgrass.Tiresmaylosetraction.Always
keep the machine in gear when going down slopes.
• Donotshifttoneutralandcoastdownhill.
• Avoidstarting,stopping,orturningonaslope.Ifthetires
losetraction,disengagethebladesandproceedslowly
straight down the slope.
• Keepallmovementontheslopesslowandgradual.Do
notmakesuddenchangesinspeedordirection,which
could cause the machine to roll over.
• Useextremecautionwhileoperatingmachinewithgrass
catchers or other attachments; they can affect the stability
ofthemachine.Donouseonsteepslopes.
• Donottrytostabilizethemachinebyputtingyourfooton
the ground.
• Donotmowneardrop-offs,ditches,orembankments.
The machine could suddenly roll over if a wheel is over
the edge or if the edge caves in.
• Ifmachinestopswhilegoinguphill,disengageblades,
shift into reverse and back down slowly.
• Donotturnonslopesunlessnecessary,andthen,turn
slowlyandgraduallydownhill,ifpossible.
• Donotrelyonthetiltindicatortowarnyouofexceeding
themaximumrecommendedoperationangleof15°.

IV. TOWING
• Towonlywithamachinethathasahitchdesignedfor
towing.Donotattachtowedequipmentexceptatthehitch
point.
• Follow the manufacturer's recommendation for weight
limits for towed equipment and towing on slopes.
• Neverallowchildrenorothersinorontowedequipment.
• Onslopes,theweightofthetowedequipmentmaycause
loss of traction and loss of control.
• Travelslowlyandallowextradistancetostop.
V. SERVICE
SAFE HANDLING OF GASOLINE
Toavoidpersonalinjuryorpropertydamage,useextreme
careinhandlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammable
andthevaporsareexplosive.
• Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipes,andothersources
of ignition.
• Useonlyapprovedgasolinecontainer.
• Neverremovegascaporaddfuelwiththeenginerunning.
• Allowenginetocoolbeforerefueling.
• Neverfuelthemachineindoors.
• Neverstorethemachineorfuelcontainerwherethere
isanopenflame,spark,orpilotlightsuchasonawater
heater or other appliances.
• Never fill containers inside a vehicle or on a truck or
trailer bed with plastic liner. Always place containers on
the ground away from your vehicle when filling.
• Removegas-poweredequipmentfromthetruckortrailer
andrefuelitontheground.Ifthisisnotpossible,then
refuelsuchequipmentwithaportablecontainer,rather
thanfromagasolinedispensernozzle.
• Keepthenozzleincontactwiththerimofthefueltankor
container opening at all times until fueling is complete.
Donotuseanozzlelock-opendevice.
• Iffuelisspilledonclothing,changeclothingimmediately.
• Never overfill fuel tank. Replace gas cap and tighten
securely.
GENERAL SERVICE
• Neveroperatemachineinaclosedarea.
• Keepallnutsandboltstighttoensuretheequipmentis
in safe working condition.
• Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Neverinterferewith
the intended function of a safety device or reduce the
protection provided by a safety device. Check there proper
operationregularly. NEVERoperate amachinewitha
safety device that does not function properly.
• Keepmachinefreeofgrass,leaves,orotherdebrisbuild-
up. Clean oil or fuel spillage and remove any fuel-soaked
debris. Allow machine to cool before storing.
• Ifyoustrikeaforeignobject,stopandinspectthemachine.
Repair,ifnecessary,beforerestarting.
• Nevermakeanyadjustmentsorrepairswiththeengine
running.
• Checkgrasscatchercomponentsandthedischargechute
frequently and replace with manufacturer's recommended
parts,whennecessary.
• Mowerbladesaresharp.Wrapthebladeorweargloves,
anduseextremecautionwhenservicingthem.
• Checkbrakeoperationfrequently.Adjustandserviceas
required.
• Maintainorreplacesafetyandinstructionlabels,asnec-
essary.
