This document is a Quick Reference Guide for the Hyundai Sonata, providing essential information on its features, usage, and maintenance.

Driver Control Features

Remote Keyless Entry/Smart Key (if equipped) This system allows for remote locking, unlocking, and trunk release.

  • Lock: Pressing the lock button once locks the doors; pressing it twice provides a confirmation chirp.
  • Unlock: Pressing the unlock button once unlocks the driver's door; pressing it twice unlocks all doors.
  • Trunk Unlock: Press and hold the trunk unlock button to open the trunk.
  • Panic: Press and hold the panic button to activate the alarm; press any button to turn it off.

Door Locking/Unlocking – Automatic The Hyundai Sonata is equipped with a feature that automatically locks all doors when driving. This feature can be configured by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Tilt and Telescopic Steering Wheel (if equipped) This feature allows for adjustment of the steering wheel's angle and height for optimal driving comfort.

  • Tilt/Telescoping: To adjust, push the lever downward, set the desired angle and height, then pull the lever upward to lock it in place.
  • Tilt (only): To adjust, pull the lever toward you and hold it to unlock, set the angle, then release the lever to lock it.
  • Note: Do not adjust the steering wheel while driving.

Front Seat Adjustment Seats can be adjusted manually or with power controls.

  • Manual Adjustment:
    • Forward/Backward: Adjust the seat position.
    • Raise/Lower: Adjust the seat height.
    • Seat Back: Adjust the angle of the seat back.
  • Power Adjustment:
    • Forward/Backward: Adjust the seat position.
    • Raise/Lower: Adjust the seat height.
    • Seat Back: Adjust the angle of the seat back.
    • Lumbar: Adjust the lumbar support.

Headrest Adjustment

  • Raise: Pull up on the headrest to raise its height.
  • Lower: Press the lock knob while pushing down on the headrest to lower it.

Shoulder Belt Height Adjustment (Front Seat) The shoulder belt height can be adjusted to ensure it lies across the chest, midway over the shoulder, and not on the neck. Press the adjustment button to move the height adjuster.

  • Note: Moving the height adjuster quickly may cause the seat belt retractor to lock momentarily.

Basic Safety Precautions

  • Always ensure all occupants are properly wearing seat belts.
  • Small children should always ride in the rear seat in an appropriate child restraint system.
  • Never place children under 13 years old in the front seats due to airbag deployment risks.
  • Refer to the Owner's Manual for complete safety information.
  • Seat Belt Reminder: If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition is ON or START, the reminder light will blink and a chime will sound for approximately six seconds.

Power Windows and Auto Up/Down Function

  • Auto Up/Down: To fully open/close windows automatically, press the switch fully down to open or pull it fully up to close.

Outside Rearview Mirrors

  • Adjustment: Move the selecting switch to the right or left, then depress the appropriate direction on the switch to adjust the mirror.
  • Lock Control: The middle position locks the control.

Sunroof Controls (if equipped)

  • Slide Open: Press the "SLIDE OPEN" button to open the sunroof.
  • Tilt Up: Press the "TILT UP" button to tilt the sunroof upward.
  • Tilt Down: Press the "Tilt Down" button to tilt the sunroof downward.
  • Slide Closed: Press the "Slide Closed" button to close the sunroof.

Refueling

  • The fuel door release button is located on the driver's door by the map pocket.
  • Note: Always reinstall the fuel cap fully and ensure it clicks after refueling to prevent the Check Engine Light from illuminating.

Windshield Wiper/Washer

  • MIST: Single wipe.
  • INT (Intermittent): The wiper speed can be varied by rotating the INT switch.
  • LO: Low speed wipe.
  • HI: High speed wipe.
  • WIPE/WASH OPERATION: Pull the lever toward you to activate wipe and wash.

Headlights and Fog Lights

  • Headlight Operation: Rotate the switch to:
    • OFF: Headlights off.
    • Parking Lights: Parking lights on.
    • Headlights: Headlights on.
    • AUTO (if equipped): Automatic ON/OFF.
  • Note: Ignition must be ON for headlights to operate.
  • High Beam Activation: Push the lever forward.
  • Flash Feature: Pull the lever back and release.
  • Fog Light Switch (if equipped): Rotate the switch to the ON position.
  • Note: Fog lights only function on low beam.

Transmission

  • Automatic Transmission (if equipped):
    • P: Park
    • R: Reverse
    • N: Neutral
    • D: Drive
    • (+/-) Shiftronic: (+) Upshift, (-) Downshift.
  • 5-Speed Manual Transmission (if equipped):
    • Engaging Reverse: Lift the collar tab up and then shift into the Reverse gear position.

Additional Features

Occupant Classification System

  • Passenger Air Bag Off Indicator: The occupant classification system will disable the right front passenger's airbag under certain conditions (e.g., when a child seat is detected). The indicator light will illuminate when the passenger's airbag is disabled. Refer to the Owner's Manual for details.

Clock

  • The clock displays hours and minutes. Press and hold both buttons to toggle between 12 or 24 hours.

iPod®/USB and Auxiliary Input Jacks

  • An auxiliary and USB jack is located in the center console compartment. Use the jack to connect an external audio device and listen to it through the vehicle's audio system.
  • Note: To operate an iPod® through the vehicle's audio system, a Hyundai adapter cable is required, available from your local Hyundai dealer.

HomeLink® Wireless Control System (if equipped)

  • HomeLink® can replace up to three hand-held remote controls for garage doors, estate gates, and home lighting. Refer to the Owner's Manual for detailed instructions or call HomeLink® at 1-800-355-3515.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

  • Low Tire Pressure: The "(!)" indicator illuminates when tire pressure is low. Inflate tires to proper pressure.
  • Note: Tire pressure may vary in colder temperatures.
  • TPMS System Malfunction: The "TPMS" indicator illuminates if the system malfunctions. See an authorized Hyundai dealer.
  • Note: TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance. Refer to the Owner's Manual for details.

Trip Computer or Trip Odometer (if equipped)

  • Trip Computer (with ignition ON): Displays Tripmeter, Distance to empty, Average fuel consumption, and Drive time. The RESET button resets displayed information.
  • Trip Odometer (without Trip Computer, with ignition ON): Press the TRIP button to toggle between TRIP A and TRIP B.
  • Note: Press the RESET button for one second to reset individual TRIP A or TRIP B to 0.

Map Light

  • DOOR: The dome light turns on when the door is open. When the door is closed, it fades off when ignition is turned to ON or when the lock button is pressed on the key fob.
  • ON: To turn the dome light ON/OFF.

Cruise Control

  • To Set a Cruising Speed:
    1. Pull the switch (ON/OFF) to illuminate the CRUISE indicator.
    2. Accelerate to the desired speed (above 25 mph).
    3. Push the SET switch and remove your foot from the accelerator pedal.
  • To Accelerate or Decelerate:
    • RES/ACCEL: Press to increase or resume cruising speed.
    • COAST/SET: Press to decelerate or set cruise control speed.
  • To Cancel Cruising Speed: Press CANCEL, the brake pedal, or the clutch pedal (if equipped).

Audio System (if equipped)

  • Power Button: Press to turn the radio on.
  • Tuning/Listening to Channels:
    • FM/AM or XM®: Press to select the desired band.
    • Tune Control Knob: Turn to select the desired channel.
    • Note: A clear view of the southern sky is recommended for good XM® radio reception.
  • Setting Preset Memory Buttons (FM/AM or XM®): Press and hold any preset button (1-6) until an audible beep is heard to store the current channel.
  • Adjusting the Equalizer (Sound Quality Control):
    • Press the Audio Control Knob to select the following sound qualities: Bass→Middle→Treble→Fader→Balance.
    • Turn the Audio Control Knob to adjust the sound quality.
  • Displaying Information (XM®): Press the INFO button to display channel information: Category and Channel→Artist and Title.
  • Steering Wheel Audio Controls (if equipped):
    • Volume: Pull for volume up, push for volume down.
    • MUTE (if equipped): Press to turn ON/OFF sound.
    • VOICE COMMAND (if equipped with Navigation unit): Pull to activate voice command.
    • MODE: Press to turn radio ON. Press and hold to turn radio OFF.
    • Tune: Press to change from FM/AM/CD/XM/MP3 (if loaded).
    • Seek: Press to change station or track (CD mode).
  • Notes:
    • Refer to your Owner's Manual for more detailed information on how to use your audio system.
    • A clear view of the southern sky is needed for good XM® radio reception.
    • XM® subscription is for 90 days following the vehicle date of sale. Contact XM® Radio at 1-800-XM-RADIO (1-800-967-2346) to renew your XM® subscription.

Climate Control

Automatic Climate Control (if equipped)

  • Defrosting/Defogging:
    1. Set the temperature control to the desired setting.
    2. Set the fan speed to the highest setting.
    3. Press the front windshield defrost control.
  • Controls:
    • Temperature: Press to adjust.
    • Fan Speed: Press to adjust.
    • Automatic Control: Press to allow the system to automatically control heating/cooling mode and fan speed.
    • Dual Zone Temperature Control: Press to enable.
    • System Off: Press to turn off.
    • Air Conditioning On/Off: Press to turn on/off.
    • Recirculation Air Mode On/Off: Press to turn on/off.
    • Fresh Air Mode On/Off: Press to turn on/off.
    • Front Windshield Defrost On/Off: Press to turn on/off.
    • Rear Window Defrost Button On/Off: Press to turn on/off.
    • Air Flow Direction: Press to change.
    • Passenger Temperature Control: Press to allow passenger to select desired temperature independently.
  • Notes:
    • On automatic climate control, set the fan speed to the desired speed to turn the fan on. Pressing OFF turns the fan off.
    • If the climate control air filter is not replaced per schedule, excessive window fogging may result.

Manual Climate Control (if equipped)

  • Defrosting/Defogging:
    1. Set the temperature control to the desired setting.
    2. Set the fan speed to the highest setting.
    3. Press the front windshield defrost control.
  • Controls:
    • Fan Speed: Rotate to adjust.
    • Temperature: Rotate to adjust.
    • Air Flow Direction: Rotate to change.
    • Air Conditioning On/Off: Press to turn on/off.
    • Rear Window Defrost On/Off: Press to turn on/off.
    • Recirculation Air Mode On/Off: Press to turn on/off.
    • Fresh Air Mode On/Off: Press to turn on/off.
  • Cooling (MAX/AC mode): Quickly cools the vehicle interior. In MAX/AC mode, A/C turns on automatically, and recirculation mode activates. A/C cannot be turned off in MAX/AC mode.
  • Note: If the climate control air filter is not replaced per schedule, excessive window fogging may result.

Maintenance

Scheduled Maintenance Maintenance intervals are provided for both "Normal Usage" and "Severe Usage." "Severe Usage" details are available in the Owner's Manual.

  • Engine Oil & Filter:
    • Normal: Replace every 7,500 miles.
    • Severe: Replace every 3,000 miles or 3 months.
  • Tire Rotation:
    • Normal: Perform every 7,500 miles.
    • Severe: Perform every 7,500 miles.
  • Fuel Lines, Fuel Hoses & Connections:
    • Normal: Inspect every 7,500 miles.
    • Severe: Same as Normal.
  • Steering Gear Box, Linkage & Boots/Lower Arm Ball Joint, Upper Arm Ball Joint:

Customer Delivery Checklist: This section outlines items to be verified and demonstrated during vehicle delivery.

  • Before Delivery:
    • Confirm "GOOD BATTERY" and staple test ticket (MIDTRONICS TEST CCA 600A).
    • Verify all tire pressures are 33 PSI (LF, LR, RF, RR).
    • Verify all remote functions (LOCK/UNLOCK/TRUNK RELEASE).
    • Verify vehicle is clean, in good condition, free of chips and scratches.
    • Ensure floormats are snapped into place.
  • Walk the Customer Through Key Delivery Features:
