This document is a user manual for an Indesit W 83 T washing machine, providing instructions for installation, use, care, and troubleshooting.
Function Description
The Indesit W 83 T is a washing machine designed for domestic use, capable of washing various types of fabrics and degrees of soil. It features multiple wash programs, temperature settings, and spin cycle options to cater to different laundry needs. The machine incorporates an electronic control device for even distribution of garments within the drum, aiming to minimize noise and vibrations during the spin cycle. It also includes an "Anti-crease" function for delicate and synthetic fabrics.

Usage Features
The washing machine's control panel is designed for simplicity. It includes:
- Programme selector knob (A): Used to select the wash program by turning it clockwise until the desired program symbol/number aligns with the pointer.
- Temperature control knob (B): Sets the wash temperature, allowing for reduction from recommended temperatures or selection of a cold wash cycle (*).
- Detergent dispenser (C): Divided into three compartments for pre-wash detergent, main cycle detergent, and fabric conditioner. Liquid detergent is recommended for wash cycles up to 60 degrees without pre-wash.
- Slow spin button (D): Reduces spinning speed from 800 to 400 rpm for cotton/linen and 700 to 400 rpm for synthetic fabrics.
- Rapid wash button (E): Reduces wash program length by about 30% (not for special, wool, or silk programs).
- On-off button (F): Powers the machine on or off. Turning off does not cancel a selected program.
- On-off lamp (G): Flashes when the appliance is awaiting a program, and stays lit once a program is accepted.
- Anti-crease function (symbol): Interrupts the wash program, keeping laundry soaking in water before draining. This is useful for synthetic fabrics, silk, and curtains to prevent creasing. The program can be completed by turning the program knob one notch.
Starting a wash cycle:
- Ensure the door is closed, the plug is in the socket, water supply is on, and the selector knob (A) is at Stop/Reset.
- Choose the program and temperature.
- Add detergent and fabric conditioner to the dispenser.
- Press the on/off button (F). The pilot lamp (G) will flash, then stay lit after 5 seconds, indicating the cycle has begun.
- At the end of the cycle, wait 3 minutes, then turn off the machine (F to O position) to open the door safely.
Special Program - Daily Wash: Programme 7 at 30°C for lightly soiled garments (max 3 kg, except wool and silk). Lasts around 30 minutes, saving time and energy. Liquid detergent is recommended.
Stain Removal: The manual provides tips for removing common stains like ink, tar, wax, chewing gum, mold, lipstick, nail polish, and grass using specific solvents or methods.
Loading Tips:
- Divide laundry by fabric type and colour fastness.
- Empty all pockets and repair/remove loose buttons.
- For delicate items, use a canvas pouch.
- Load a mixture of large and small items for even distribution.
- Do not exceed recommended load weights (e.g., 5.5 kg for resistant fabrics, 1 kg for pure new wool).
- Turn coloured T-shirts, printed items, and shirts inside out before washing and ironing.
- For "salopette" overalls, place hooks in pockets and fasten with safety pins to prevent drum damage.
- For curtains, fold and place in a pillow case or mesh bag, and do not overload, using program 9 (excludes spin cycle).
- Quilted coats/anoraks: max 2-3 kg, never 5.5 kg. Repeat rinse once or twice with gentle spin.
- Trainers: wash with jeans or tough garments, not whites, after removing mud.
Maintenance Features
- General Care:
- Unplug the machine and turn off water supply when not in use or during holidays.
- Leave the door ajar to allow air circulation and prevent odours.
- Clean the exterior with a soft cloth dipped in lukewarm soapy water.
- Check the water inlet hose annually for cracks and replace if necessary.
- Detergent Dispenser:
- Clean regularly by pulling it outwards and rinsing under running water to prevent dried detergent accumulation.
- Follow dosage recommendations from detergent manufacturers, adjusting for load size, water hardness, and soil level.
- Avoid overfilling the fabric conditioner compartment.
- Do not use hand wash detergent as it can cause excessive foam.
- Reduce detergent amount when washing with cold water as it dissolves less easily.
- Pump Pre-chamber:
- The self-cleaning pump does not require regular cleaning, but small objects can fall into its pre-chamber.
- To access: ensure the machine is empty and unplugged. Gently ease down the top of the plinth panel at the base, then ease the top edge forward to lift it clear. Place a dish below the cover to catch water. Release the cover by turning anti-clockwise. Securely replace the cover and plinth panel after checking.
- Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive list of common problems and solutions before calling a technician, covering issues like the machine not starting, not filling/draining water, excessive vibration, leaks, and too much foam.
- Power Supply Cable Replacement: Instructions are provided for safely replacing the special power supply cable, which must be purchased from authorised Technical Service Centres. This involves removing the covering lid, disconnecting wires from the radio interference suppressor, and reversing the procedure for connection.
