If additional forces are applied to the seat, the weight the systemdetects maybetoo low.
WARNING
Thefront-passenger front air bag doesnot deploy during an accident.
Thisposes an increased risk of injury.
1. Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying attention to road and traffic conditions.
2. Secure thevehicle against rolling away.
3. Switch the ignition off.
4. Have theoccupant on the front-passengerseatstep out of the vehicle.
5. Make sure that the seat is unoccupied, close the front passenger door and switch on the ignition.
6. Observe the<PASSENGER AIRBAG> indicator lightsin the centre console and thevehicle information display andcheck
the following. Seat unoccupied and ignition switched on:
-The <PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF> and <PASSENGER AIR BAG ON> indicator lights must light up simultaneously for
approximately six seconds.
-The <PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF> indicator lights must then light up and remain lit. If the indicator light is on, the auto-
matic front-passenger front air bag deactivation system has disabled the front-passenger front air bag (see
“Automatic
front-passenger air bag deactivation system” in the “1. Safety — seats, seat belts and supplemental restraint system” section
)
-the [Front-passenger airbag enabled See Owner’sManual] or [Front-passengerairbag disabled See Owner’s Manual]
displaymessagesmustnot be shown in the vehicle information display.
7. Wait for aperiod of at least60seconds until the necessary system checks have been completed.
8. Makesure that the display messagesdonot appear in the vehicle information display.
If theseconditionsare met, the front-passenger seat canbeoccupied again. Whether the <PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF> or
<ON>indicator light remainslit or goes out depends on how the automatic front passenger front air bag deactivation sys-
tem classifies the occupant.
If the conditionsare not met, the system is not operating correctly.
