Odours from inside and outside the vehicle can
build up in the air conditioner unit. Odour canen-
terthe passenger compartment throughthe vents.
When parking, set the heater and air condi-
tionercontrols to turn off air recirculation to
allow freshair into the passengercompart-
ment. Thisshould help reduceodours inside
thevehicle.
Observe the settings recommended on the fol-
lowing pages.The windows could otherwise
mist up.Toprevent the windows from misting
up

Switch off climate control only briefly.

Switch on air-recirculation mode only briefly.
•
Switch on the cooling with air dehumidification
function.
•
Switch on the windscreen demisting function
briefly, if required.
The air-conditioning system/automatic climate
control regulates the temperature and the hu-
midity of thevehicle interior andfilters undesir-
ablesubstances from the air.
Theair-conditioning system/automatic climate
control canonlybeoperated when the engine is
running. Optimum operation
is
only achieved
with the side windows closed.
The residual heat function canonlybeactivated
ordeactivatedwith the ignitionswitched off(see
“Residual heat function” later in thissection
).
Alwayskeep the ventilation flapsbehind the
side panelling clear.Otherwisethe vehicle will
not be ventilated correctly.
NOTE

Ventilate thevehicle forabrief period during warm
weather.Thiswillspeed up the cooling process
and the desired interior temperature will be
reachedmore quickly.

The integrated filter filters out most particles of
dust and soot and completely filters out pollen.
With automatic climate control, gaseouspollut-
ants and odours will alsobereduced. Aclogged
filterreduces the amount of air supplied to the ve-
hicle interior.For thisreason, youshould always
observe the intervalfor replacing the filter,which
isspecified in theService Booklet.As thisdepends
on environmental conditions, e.g. heavy air pollu-
tion, the intervalmay be shorter than statedinthe
ServiceBooklet.

Undercertain environmental conditions, the re-
sidual heat function maybeactivated automati-
callyanhour after the keyhas been removed in
order to drythe automatic climate control. The ve-
hicle is then ventilated for30minutes.
