DEPRESSTHE BRAKE PEDAL
When the engine is running, shifting the
shift lever into the R(Reverse), D(Drive) or
Manual shift mode position without fully de-
pressing the brakepedal maycause the ve-
hicletomoveslowly.Besure thebrakepedal
isfullydepressedand the vehicleis stopped,
beforeshifting the shift lever.

BE AWARE OF THE SHIFTLEVER POSITION
Make sure that the shift lever is in the de-
sired position. Usethe D(Drive), or Manual
shift modetomoveforwards and the R(Re-
verse) to move backwards. Releasethe park-
ingbrake and the brakepedal, then depress
theaccelerator pedal to startthe vehicle in
motion and mergewith traffic (avoid abrupt
starting andspinning the wheels).

Avoidrevving up the engine while the vehicle is
stopped, thiscould causeunexpected vehicle
movement (if the shift lever is in the R(Reverse), D
(Drive), or Manual shift mode position) or dam
age
the engine (if the shift lever is in the N(Neutral)
position or P(Park) has been selected.
•
WARM THE ENGINE UP
Due to the higher idle speeds when the en-
gineiscold, extracaution must be taken
when shifting the shift lever into the driving
positionimmediately after starting theen-
gine.
•
PARKING THE VEHICLE
Depressthe brakepedal and, oncethe ve-
hiclestops, pressthe P(Park) button, apply
theparking brakeand releasethe brake
pedal.
Starting thevehicle
1. Afterstarting the engine, fully depressthe
brakepedal before shifting the shift lever to
R(Reverse), D(Drive) or Manual shift mode.
2. Keep the brakepedal depressed and push
the shift lever to shift into adriving gear.
3. Releasethe parking brakeand brake, then
graduallyput the vehicle in motion by press-
ing the accelerator pedal.
Theautomatic transmission is designed so that
thebrake pedal MUST be depressedbefore
shifting from P(Park) to any drive position while
the ignition switch is ON.
