This document describes the Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid, a versatile accessory designed to transform your Instant Pot multi-use pressure cooker into an air fryer. This lid allows you to cook food with rapid air circulation, achieving the crispy, golden texture of deep-fried dishes with minimal oil. It can be used to cook meals from start to finish or to crisp up foods that have been prepared using other methods, such as pressure cooking, slow cooking, or sous vide.
The Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid is designed to sit on top of a compatible Instant Pot 6-quart multi-use pressure cooker base, effectively turning it into an air fryer. It features a control panel with a display that shows cooking time, temperature, and status messages. The lid offers several Smart Programs, including Air Fry, Broil, Bake, Roast, Reheat, and Dehydrate, each with preset optimal time and temperature settings that can be adjusted to suit individual preferences. LED indicators illuminate to show the active Smart Program.
The core function of the Air Fryer Lid is rapid air circulation, which cooks food evenly and creates a crispy exterior. It is ideal for a wide range of foods, from fresh or frozen fries and chicken wings to baked goods and dehydrated snacks. The lid includes a heating element and a fan that circulates hot air around the food.
To use the Air Fryer Lid, first ensure your Instant Pot cooker base is unplugged. Place your food in the multi-level air fryer basket (which can be used with or without the broil/dehydrating tray), an oven-safe baking dish, or directly in the Instant Pot's stainless-steel inner pot. It is crucial to use only the Instant Pot stainless-steel inner pot and never a ceramic-coated inner pot. Once the food is in place and the inner pot is inserted into the cooker base, position the Air Fryer Lid on top and plug it in.
The control panel allows you to select a Smart Program and adjust the cooking time and temperature using the Temp +/- and Time +/- buttons. The lid saves any customizations made to the time or temperature after you press Start. During operation, the display will show "On" as the lid preheats. Partway through the cooking cycle, the lid will beep and display "turn Food," prompting you to turn, flip, or rotate your food for even cooking. You can lift the lid to pause cooking; if you need to set it down, place it on the provided protective pad. After turning the food, place the lid back on the cooker base to resume cooking. If the lid is left off for more than 3 minutes, it will revert to Standby mode and display "OFF." Some foods may not require turning, and if the lid is not removed after the "turn Food" indicator appears, cooking will continue after 10 seconds.
When the Smart Program is complete, the lid will beep and display "End." You can then lift the lid off the cooker base and place it on the protective pad. The lid will beep at 5, 20, and 60 minutes after cooking completion to remind you. The Reheat and Dehydrate Smart Programs also include a "Cool" phase where the fan blows for up to 5 minutes or until the lid is lifted.
The Air Fryer Lid offers flexibility in temperature scale (°F or °C) and sound settings (on/off), which can be adjusted in Standby mode. Individual Smart Programs can be reset to their factory default settings by pressing and holding the desired Smart Program button until the appliance beeps. All Smart Programs can be reset by pressing and holding the Cancel button until the appliance beeps.
For optimal results, it is important not to overcrowd the multi-level air fryer basket or broil/dehydrating tray, as air needs to circulate freely around food items. Always follow a trusted recipe, as cooking times and temperatures are recommendations and can vary based on food type and quantity.
Proper care and cleaning are essential for the longevity and safe operation of the Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid. Before cleaning or storage, always unplug the Air Fryer Lid and allow it to cool completely to room temperature. Never use harsh chemical detergents, scouring pads, or powders on any parts.
The multi-level air fryer basket, broil/dehydrating tray, and stand are dishwasher safe and can also be hand washed with hot water and dish soap. It is recommended to disassemble these accessories before cleaning. For easier cleaning, you can spray the cooking tray and/or air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray before adding food, or line the bottom of the air fryer basket with aluminum foil or parchment paper. The protective pad and storage cover should be cleaned after each use.
For the Air Fryer Lid itself, once it's cool, clean the heating element and surrounding area with a soft, damp cloth or sponge, ensuring it is free of food debris and grease splatter. Do not remove the element cover. The exterior of the lid should be wiped clean with a soft, damp cloth or sponge; never rinse the lid under the tap. The power cord should be wiped to remove any visible particles and should not be folded during storage.
It is crucial not to immerse the appliance in water or any liquid. Without proper cleaning, food and grease splatter can build up around the heating element, posing a risk of smoke, fire, and personal injury. If you smell or see black smoke, immediately press Cancel and unplug the appliance. Once cool, clean any food splatter or grease with a soft cloth and mild detergent.
For storage, flip the protective pad so the grooved side is up, then lower the Air Fryer Lid onto the protective pad and turn it clockwise until it locks into place. This ensures the lid is protected and stored securely.
