Applications
Communications programs such as HyperTerminal, Procomm Plus, or Speaker Phone
don’t seem to work or they lock Windows
• When you first try to use HyperTerminal or similar application, the system responds with a message asking if
you want to install the modem. Answer “Yes” to this question and follow the instructions on the screen to
install it.
• Verify with your company that your computer has an internal modem installed.
Third-party applications don’t work with COM3
• Make sure a modem is installed. Locate the “Config” string label on the bottom of the computer; a modem is
not installed if the seventh digit is Z.
• Make sure your application is set to use COM2.
• Make sure your application is using the correct communication settings (baud, parity, etc.).
Batteries
The battery does not charge
• To prevent possible damage to the battery, the system will not allow a charge if the battery temperature is
extremely hot or cold (such as in a closed, unattended vehicle). If possible, charge the battery in a location
with a moderate temperature of around 20°C (68°F).
• If possible, turn off the computer while the battery is charging.
• Try enabling the “Suspend on AC Power” option under the Power, Suspend/Resume Control menu in the
System Configuration Utility (SCU). This allows the system to automatically suspend while it is connected to
