8.5 Bus structure
In a bus structure
· all devices are connected in line.
· each device has its own address (see chap.
„12.7 Programming the parameters“ on page
38).
· up to 32 participants/devices can be
interconnected in a segment. The cable is
terminated with resistors (bus terminator, 120
ohm, 1/4 W) at the start and end of a segment.
· repeaters (line amplifiers) are used for more
than 32 participants to connect the segments.
· devices with an activated bus terminator must
be supplied with power.

· placing the master at the end of a segment is
recommended. If the master is replaced with an
activated bus terminator, the bus is deactivated.
· the bus can become unstable if a slave is
replaced with an activated bus terminator or is
de-energized.
· devices, which do not participate in the bus
terminator, can be replaced without making the
bus unstable.
