Section 6 System Inspection and Maintenance
6.2.2 Annual Maintenance
In addition to the monthly inspection steps and semiannual maintenance the system shall be thoroughly
examined at least once each year.
A minimum of the following steps should be performed during the annual maintenance:
• Surveythehazardtodetermineifithaschangedfromwhatthesystemwasdesignedtoprotect.While
surveying the hazard look for dierent fuels, loss of hazard integrity, new hazards, etc. If discrepancies are
found the changes must be noted and the system re-calculated to determine if the system is appropriate
for the existing hazard.
• oroughlyinspecttheperimeteroftheenclosureforpenetrationsoropeningsthatcouldadversely
aect agent leakage. Any openings found should be noted on the service report and sealed.
• Removeallactuatorsfromcylindervalvesandtestforproperoperation.Leaveallactuatorsountil
service is completed.
Do not install the electric, pneumatic, or manual valve actuators until the system has been fully inspected.
Failure to comply could result in personal injury or death from violent cylinder movement or over-exposure to
high concentrations of agent.
• Examinethecylinderandvalveassemblyforanysignsofdamage,denting,corrosion,etc.asdescribed
in NFPA 2001. If any deciency is identied the cylinder shall be hydrostatically tested.
• Checkthecylinderbracketforcorrosionordamageandmakecertainitissecurelyfastenedtoarigid
vertical structure.
• Checktobecertainthecylinderissecurelyinstalledinthebracketwiththeappropriatefastenersand
that the bracket is at the correct height
• Checkallnozzlestomakecertaintheyaresecurelyinstalledonthepipe,aimedproperly,notcorroded,
not plugged, correct orice size, correct style, and the discharge pattern is not obstructed.
• Checktheconditionofthepipingtomakecertainitisproperlysecuredinthehangersandallttings
are tight.
• Visuallyinspectthepilotactuationhoseforsignsofdamage,corrosion,abrasions,weatherchecking,or
aging. If any deciency is identied the hose shall be replaced or hydrostatically tested.
