7.6.3 Replacing the fuel filter
NOTE
Fuel can cause environmental
damage
XBind any spilled diesel fuel with
suitable means.
XThen dispose of the diesel and fuel
filter in accordance with
environmental regulations.
Procedure
• Drain the fuel from the filter into a
suitable container.
• Undo the fuel filter (174) with a filter
wrench and manually unscrew it.
• Thoroughly clean the raised faces of
the filter flange.
• Apply a thin layer of diesel to the seal of the new fuel filter.
• Manually screw in the fuel filter until the seal contacts the filter flange.
• Tighten the fuel filter another third of a turn.
• Bleed the fuel system
7.6.4 Bleeding the fuel system
Z Collect any emerging fuel and dispose of it in accordance with environmental
regulations.
Z While running the engine check the fuel filter, the discharge valve and the union
nuts of the injection nozzles for leaks.
Procedure
• Open the discharge screw (173).
• Apply the manual pump lever (172) on the fuel pump until fuel escapes from the
discharge screw without bubbles.
• Tighten the discharge screw (173).
• Apply the starter motor via the key switch for approx. 10 seconds.
• Wait for 10 seconds.
• Repeat the process until the engine starts up.
Z If the engine does not start up or stops after a short time, repeat the bleeding
procedure.
