Do you have a question about the Kenwood AT-52 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Kenwood AT-52/52B is an audio timer designed to control the power supply to connected audio components, offering precise timing for various operations. It features a 24-hour digital clock with a fluorescent display, making the time easy to read with 13 mm high numerals. The device is synchronized by the AC power supply, ensuring accurate timekeeping.

Function Description:

The primary function of the AT-52/52B is to act as a programmable power switch for audio equipment. It includes an "OUTLET" pushbutton with "ON," "AUTO," and "OFF" settings. When "ON" is pressed, power is supplied to all AC outlets, and the "AC OUTLET" indicator lights up. In "AUTO" mode, power is available from the AC outlets at a preset time, which is used when a timer or sleep timer is engaged. Pressing "OFF" shuts off all AC outlets, and the "AC OUTLET" indicator goes off.

The timer supports three main modes of operation, selected via the "FUNCTION" selector:

  • ADJUST: This position allows users to set the current hours and minutes.
  • PRESENT TIME: In this position, the display shows the current time. This is the normal operating position.
  • TIMER SET (ON/OFF): This mode is used to program the timer to automatically turn connected audio components ON or OFF at specific times.
  • SLEEP SET: This mode allows adjustment of the sleep timer operation time.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Clock Type: 24-hour digital clock.
  • Display Type: Fluorescent display.
  • Time Accuracy: AC power supply synchronized, with an accuracy of less than ±0.02 second after preset time.
  • Timer ON Time: Can be set at 1-minute intervals.
  • Timer OFF Time: Can be set within 23 hours 59 minutes at 1-minute intervals.
  • Sleep Timer: The ON time can be set from 1 minute to 1 hour 59 minutes.
  • AC Outlets: Two parallel outlets.
    • U.S.A. and Canada Models: Up to 600 W.
    • Other Countries: Up to 1000 W.
  • Power Requirements:
    • U.S.A. and Canada Models: AC 120 V, 60 Hz.
    • Other Countries: AC 120/220~240 V (Switchable), 50/60 Hz (Switchable).
  • Power Consumption: 6 W.
  • Dimensions (W x H x D): 420 mm (16-17/32") x 57 mm (2-1/4") x 230 mm (9-1/16").
  • Weight: 2.0 kg (4.4 lbs).

Usage Features:

  • AC Voltage Selector: The device operates on 120 volts or 220-240 volts AC. A selector switch on the back panel must be set to match the local AC line voltage before connecting the power cord. Incorrect setting can cause damage not covered by warranty.
  • Frequency Selector Switch: A switch at the rear panel allows selection between 50 Hz and 60 Hz to match the country's line frequency.
  • Time Setting: The timer can be set at 1-minute intervals. The "TIME FORWARD" and "TIME BACK" switches allow quick or slow adjustment of time (approximately 2 minutes per second for slow adjustment).
  • MOS Type LSI: Incorporates a MOS type LSI for accurate time display, synchronized by the AC line frequency.
  • AC Outlet Indicator: A red indicator shows the status of the AC outlets.
  • Timer Setting (ON/OFF): Users can program the timer to turn connected audio components ON or OFF at desired times. This involves setting the FUNCTION selector to "TIMER SET (ON)" or "TIMER SET (OFF)," adjusting the time using the TIME FORWARD or BACK switch, and then pressing the "AUTO" OUTLET pushbutton. The timer operates in 24-hour intervals in preset mode.
  • Sleep Timer Setting: The sleep timer automatically turns OFF connected audio components after a preset ON time, which can be set from 1 minute to 1 hour 59 minutes ahead. To activate, set the FUNCTION selector to "SLEEP SET," adjust the desired ON time, and press the "AUTO" OUTLET pushbutton. The timer will turn off when the display reaches 0:00.

Maintenance Features:

  • Unpacking: Upon unpacking, users should examine the unit for any shipping damage. If damage is found, the dealer should be notified immediately. The original carton and packing materials should be retained for future shipping.
  • Installation: The unit should be installed in locations with moderate temperature (40°C or less) and humidity, away from direct sunlight. High temperatures can adversely affect performance. It should be installed on a flat, dust-free, and vibration-free surface.
  • Safety Precautions: The unit is factory-adjusted for optimum operation, and no further adjustments are required. The case should not be opened. When connecting or disconnecting the power cord, users should hold the body of the plug, not the cord, especially with wet hands, to prevent electrical shock. The unit should be kept away from chemicals.
  • Troubleshooting ("In case of difficulty"): The manual provides a table to help users diagnose and resolve common issues before contacting a Kenwood dealer.
    • Current time fast or slow: Remedy by setting the power frequency selector to the correct position.
    • Displayed time does not advance: Remedy by setting the FUNCTION selector to "PRESENT TIME."
    • Display flashes/wrong time: Remedy by correcting the current and preset time after a power outage.
    • Preset time cannot be set: Remedy by setting the FUNCTION selector to "SLEEP SET" and setting the sleep timer ON time to 0:00.
    • Sleep timer does not stop: Remedy by resetting the timer set time later than the sleep timer ON time.

Important Notes:

  • This unit should not be connected to a cassette deck that does not feature a stand-by mechanism.
  • When the power plug is connected or power is stored after an outage, the display may flicker or show the wrong time. This requires correcting the time by referring to the "Time setting" section.
  • When the "AUTO" OUTLET pushbutton is pressed, the time sometimes cannot be set. In this case, the sleep timer may need to be adjusted.
  • Kenwood follows a policy of continuous advancements in development, so specifications may be changed without notice.
