Driving your vehicle Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) (Smart
Cruise Control System Equipped)
Limitations of the FCA
The FCA system is designed to
monitor the vehicle ahead in the
roadway through radar signals and
camera recognition to warn the
driver that a collision is imminent,
and if necessary, apply emergency
braking.
In certain situations, the radar sen
-
sor or the camera may not be able
to detect the vehicle ahead. In these
cases, the FCA system may not
operate normally. The driver must
pay careful attention in the follow
-
ing situations where the FCA opera
-
tion may be limited.
Limitations of the sensors
The sensor may be limited when:
The radar sensor or camera is
blocked with a for
eign object or
debris.
Th
e camera lens is contaminated
due to tinted, f
ilmed or coated
windshield, damaged glass, or
stuck of foreign matter (sticker,
bug, etc.) on the glass.
In
clement weather such as heavy
ra

view of the radar sensor or cam
-
era.
There is interference by electro
-
magnetic waves.
Something in the path of travel
de
flects the radar waves.
The radar/camera sensor recog
-
nition is limited.
The vehicle in front is too small to
be
detected (for example a
motorcycle etc.)
T
he vehicle in front is an oversize
v
ehicle or trailer that is too big to
be detected by the camera recog
-
nition system (for example a
tractor trailer, etc.)
The camera's field of view is not
we
ll illuminated (either too dark
or too much reflection or too
much backlight that obscures the
field of view)
The
vehicle in front does not have
th
eir rear lights on or their rear
lights are located unusually.
T
he outside brightness changes
suddenly, for exa
mple when
entering or exiting a tunnel.
When light c
oming
from a street
light or an oncoming vehicle is
reflected on a wet road surface
such as a puddle in the road.
T
he field of view in front is
obstructed
by sun glare.
The windshield glass is fogged up;
a c
lear view of the road is
obstructed.
The v
ehicle in front is driving
e
rratically.
The vehicle is on unpaved or
un
even rough surfaces, or road
with sudden gradient changes.
T
he vehicle is driven near areas
c
ontaining metal substances as a
construction zone, railroad, etc.
