Features of your vehicle Trunk
In cold and wet climates, door lock and
door mechanisms may not work prop
-
erly due to freezing conditions.
The trunk swings upward. Make sure no
objects or people are near the rear of the
vehicle when opening the trunk.
Make certain that you close the trunk
before driving your vehicle. Possible
damage may occur to the trunk torsion
bars and attached hardware if the trunk
is not closed prior to driving.
Closing the trunk
Lower the trunk lid and press down until
it locks. To be sure the trunk lid is
securely fastened, always check by try
-
ing to pull it up again.
Exhaust Fumes
The trunk should always be kept com
-
pletely closed while the vehicle is in
motion. If it is left open or ajar, poison
-
ous exhaust gases may enter the car
and serious illness or death may result.
Make sure your hands, feet and other
parts of your body are safely out of the
way before closing the trunk.
Emergency trunk safety release
Inside the trunk
Your vehicle is equipped with an Emer
-
gency Trunk Safety Release lever
located inside the trunk. If someone is
inadvertently locked in the trunk, the
trunk can be opened by moving the
lever in the direction of the arrow and
pushing the trunk open.
僅 You and your passengers must be
aware of the location of the Emer
-
gency Trunk Safety Release lever in
this vehicle and how to open the trunk
in case you are accidentally locked in
the trunk.
僅 NEVER allow anyone to occupy the
trunk of the vehicle at any time. If the
trunk is partially or totally latched and
the person is unable to get out, seri
-
ous injury or death could occur due to
lack of ventilation, exhaust fumes and
rapid heat build-up, or because of
exposure to cold weather conditions.
The trunk is also a highly dangerous
location in the event of a crash
because it is not a protected occupant
space but is a part of the vehicle's
crush zone.
僅 Your vehicle should be kept locked
and the Smart Key should be kept out
of the reach of children. Parents
should teach their children about the
dangers of playing in trunks.
