Kia recommends to use parts for
replacement from an authorised Kia
dealer/service partner. If an aftermarket
key is used, the ignition switch may not
return to ON after START. If this hap
-
pens, the starter will continue to operate
causing damage to the starter motor
and possible fire due to excessive cur
-
rent in the wiring.
Battery replacement
The folding key or smart key uses a 3
volt lithium battery which will normally
last for several years.

When replacement is necessary, use the
following procedure.
1. Insert a slim tool into the slot and gen
-
tly pry open the key cover.
2. Loosen the retaining screw of the bat
-
tery cover and then remove the cover
(for folding key).
3. Replace the battery with a new bat
-
tery (CR2032). When replacing the
battery, make sure the battery posi
-
tion.
4. Install the battery in the reverse order
of removal.
