Parking on a hill
Parkingyourvehicleonahillwitha
trailerattachedcouldcauseserious
injuryordeath,shouldthetrailer
breakloose.
However,ifyoueverhavetopark
yourtraileronahill,here’showto
doit:
1.Pullthevehicleintotheparking
space.Turnthesteeringwheelin
thedirectionofthecurb(rightif
headeddownhill,leftifheadedup
hill).
2.Ifthevehiclehasamanual
transmission,placethecarin
neutral.
3.Settheparkingbrakeandshutoff
thevehicle.
4.Placechocksunderthetrailer
wheelsonthedownhillsideofthe
wheels.
5.Startthevehicle,holdthebrakes,
shifttoneutral,releasethe
parkingbrakeandslowlyrelease
thebrakesuntilthetrailerchocks
absorbtheload.
6.Reapplythebrakes,reapply
theparkingbrakeandshiftthe
vehicletoR(Reverse)formanual 
transmission.
7.Shutoffthevehicleandrelease
thevehiclebrakesbutleavethe
parkingbrakeset.
WARNING
Parking brake
Itcanbedangeroustogetoutof
yourvehicleiftheparkingbrakeis
notfirmlyset.
Ifyouhavelefttheenginerunning,
thevehiclecanmovesuddenly.
Youorotherscouldbeseriouslyor
fatallyinjured.
When you are ready to leave after
parking on a hill
1.Withthemanualtransmissionin
Neutral,applyyourbrakesand
holdthebrakepedaldownwhile
you:
•Startyourengine;
•Shiftintogear;and
•Releasetheparkingbrake.
2.Slowlyremoveyourfootfromthe
brakepedal.
3.Driveslowlyuntilthetraileris
clearofthechocks.
4.Stopandhavesomeonepickup
andstorethechocks.
