Jump starting procedure
1.Makesuretheboosterbattery
is12-voltandthatitsnegative
terminalisgrounded.
2.Iftheboosterbatteryisin
anothervehicle,donotallowthe
vehiclescomeincontact.
3.Turnoffallunnecessaryelectrical
loads.
4.Connectthejumpercablesinthe
exactsequenceshowninthe
illustration.Firstconnectoneend
ofajumpercabletothepositive
terminalofthedischargedbattery
(1),thenconnecttheotherend
tothepositiveterminalonthe
boosterbattery(2).
Proceedtoconnectoneendof
theotherjumpercabletothe
negativeterminalofthebooster
battery(3),thentheotherendto
asolid,stationary,metallicpoint
(forexample,theenginelifting
bracket)awayfromthebattery
(4).Donotconnectittoornear
anypartthatmoveswhenthe
engineiscranked.
Donotallowthejumpercables
tocontactanythingexceptthe
correctbatteryterminalsor
thecorrectground.Donotlean
overthebatterywhenmaking
connections.
CAUTION
Battery cables
Donotconnectthejumpercable
fromthenegativeterminalofthe
boosterbatterytothenegative
terminalofthedischargedbattery.
Thiscancausethedischarged
batterytooverheatandcrack,
releasingbatteryacid.Makesure
toconnectoneendofthejumper
cabletothenegativeterminalofthe
boosterbattery,andtheotherend
toametallicpoint,farawayfrom
thebattery.
5.Starttheengineofthevehicle
withtheboosterbatteryandlet
itrunat2,000rpm,thenstart
theengineofthevehiclewiththe
dischargedbattery.
Ifthecauseofyourbattery
dischargingisnotapparent,havethe
systemcheckedbyaprofessional
workshop.Kiarecommendstovisit
anauthorizedKiadealer/service
partner.
Push-starting
Yourmanualtransmission-equipped
vehicleshouldnotbepush-started
becauseitmightdamagethe
emissioncontrolsystem.
Vehiclesequippedwithautomatic
transmission/dualclutch
transmissioncannotbepush-
started.
