Jump starting procedure
1.Makesuretheboosterbattery
is12-voltandthatitsnegative
terminalisgrounded.
2.Iftheboosterbatteryisin
anothervehicle,donotallowthe
vehiclescomeincontact.
3.Turnoffallunnecessaryelectrical
loads.
4.Connectthejumpercablesinthe
exactsequenceshowninthe
illustration.Firstconnectoneend
ofajumpercabletothepositive
terminalofthedischargedbattery
(1),thenconnecttheotherend
tothepositiveterminalonthe
boosterbattery(2).
Proceedtoconnectoneendof
theotherjumpercabletothe
negativeterminalofthebooster
battery(3),thentheotherendto
asolid,stationary,metallicpoint
(forexample,theenginelifting
bracket)awayfromthebattery
(4).Donotconnectittoornear
anypartthatmoveswhenthe
engineiscranked.
Donotallowthejumpercables
tocontactanythingexceptthe
correctbatteryterminalsor
thecorrectground.Donotlean
overthebatterywhenmaking
connections.
CAUTION
Battery cables
Donotconnectthejumpercable
fromthenegativeterminalofthe
boosterbatterytothenegative
terminalofthedischargedbattery.
Thiscancausethedischarged
batterytooverheatandcrack,
releasingbatteryacid.Makesure
toconnectoneendofthejumper
cabletothenegativeterminalofthe
boosterbattery,andtheotherend
toametallicpoint,farawayfrom
thebattery.
5.Starttheengineofthevehicle
withtheboosterbatteryandlet
itrunat2,000rpm,thenstart
theengineofthevehiclewiththe
dischargedbattery.
Ifthecauseofyourbattery
dischargingisnotapparent,havethe
systemcheckedbyaprofessional
workshop.Kiarecommendstovisit
anauthorizedKiadealer/service
partner.
Push-starting
Yourmanualtransmission-equipped
vehicleshouldnotbepush-started
becauseitmightdamagethe
emissioncontrolsystem.
Vehiclesequippedwithautomatic
transmission/dualclutch
transmissioncannotbepush-
started.
