Assembly Instructions
Note: a Cross Line Laser Level is recommended to provide fast-
er and more accurate installations. In the event a Cross Line La-
ser Level is not available, a large hand level can be used.
Note: Electrical Jumpers that go through Connectors must
be installed BEFORE the Vertical Connector Trim is ap-
plied. Failure to do so will result in partial dis-assembly later
during the installation for Jumper Insertion.
1. Locate the high spot on the floor in area where frames are to
be assembled. Frame assembly should start at a directional
connector (L, T, X, V, Y).
2. Using 2” connector bolts connect frames to connector brack-
ets at the location shown in figure A and B. Top Bracket
should be located at the highest position possible and the
remaining brackets at the lowest position possible.
3. Level assembly of frames and connectors in all directions,
included across perpendicular frames.
4. Connect additional frames to assembly using 2 1/4” frame-
to-frame alignment bolts in the locations shown. (Figure B).
Level each frame, ensuring that each glide is touching the
floor.

Overview

This document provides assembly instructions for the NARRATE™ Frames and Connectors, which appear to be components of an office furniture system, likely for cubicles or modular workstations.

Function Description:

The NARRATE™ Frames and Connectors are structural elements designed to create modular office partitions. They form the skeleton of a workstation system, allowing for the attachment of various panels, electrical components, and other accessories to build customizable office environments. The system is designed for flexibility, accommodating different frame heights and configurations (e.g., L, T, X, V, Y directional connectors). The inclusion of electrical jumper installation instructions indicates that the system is designed to integrate power and data cabling seamlessly within the partitions.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Frame Heights: The diagrams show various frame heights, including (5H + 2H), (5H - 1H), (5H), (4H), (3.5H), (3H), and (2H) frames, suggesting a modular system with different vertical dimensions. The "H" likely refers to a standard height unit.
  • Connector Types: The system utilizes different connector types, such as (7H) Connector, (5H) Connector, (4H) Connector, (3.5H) Connector, (3H) Connector, and (2H) Connector, corresponding to the various frame heights.
  • Fasteners:
    • 2" connector bolts are used to connect frames to connector brackets.
    • 2 1/4" frame-to-frame alignment bolts are used to connect additional frames.
    • Small sheet metal screws are used to secure the Vertical Trim.
  • Electrical Integration: The system supports the installation of electrical jumpers and features "Narrow Slots" and "Wide Slots" on the Mid Support Rail for electrical components. It accommodates both single-sided and double-sided beltline electrical applications.
  • Material (Implied): The use of sheet metal screws and the structural nature of the components suggest metal construction for the frames and connectors.

Usage Features:

  • Modular Design: The system is highly modular, allowing for various configurations using different frame heights and directional connectors (L, T, X, V, Y). This enables customization to fit diverse office layouts.
  • Integrated Electrical Management: Electrical jumpers can be installed within the connectors, providing a clean and organized way to route power and data. The design allows for both single-sided and double-sided electrical applications at the beltline.
  • Leveling Capability: The installation process emphasizes leveling the assembly of frames and connectors in all directions, ensuring stability and proper alignment. Leveling glides are used at the base of the frames.
  • Ease of Assembly (with proper tools): While requiring specific tools, the instructions detail a step-by-step process for assembly, including connecting frames, installing trim, and attaching top caps.
  • Alignment Features: Tabs and mating slots are designed into the connector brackets and vertical trim for precise alignment during installation. Frame-to-frame alignment bolts further ensure structural integrity.
  • Top Cap Integration: Top caps are installed to provide a finished look and ensure a flush surface with panel top caps.
  • Secure Fastening: Traxx Loc Brackets (33PTLB) are used to secure the bottom and beltline locations of the Connector Trim to the frame, enhancing stability.

Maintenance Features:

  • Adjustability: If the Connector Top Cap is not flush with the Panel Top Cap after installation, it can be adjusted by loosening the Top Connector Bracket bolts, lifting or lowering the cap, and then retightening. This allows for minor adjustments post-assembly.
  • Disassembly/Reassembly (Implied): While not explicitly detailed as a maintenance feature, the modular nature and bolted connections suggest that components can be disassembled and reassembled if reconfigurations or repairs are needed.
  • Tool-Based Installation: The reliance on tools like cordless drills, Allen bits, and Phillips bits means that maintenance or adjustments would also require these tools.

Installation Process Highlights:

  1. Site Preparation: Locate the high spot on the floor to begin assembly, starting with a directional connector.
  2. Initial Frame Assembly: Connect frames to connector brackets using 2" connector bolts, positioning brackets at the highest and lowest possible points.
  3. Leveling: Crucial step to level the entire assembly in all directions, ensuring each leveling glide touches the floor.
  4. Connecting Additional Frames: Use 2 1/4" frame-to-frame alignment bolts.
  5. Electrical Jumper Installation: Crucially, electrical jumpers must be installed BEFORE the Vertical Connector Trim is applied to avoid partial disassembly.
  6. Vertical Trim Installation: Align tabs with slots and slide downward. The top tab must rest completely on the top connector bracket. Secure with a small sheet metal screw.
  7. Top Cap Installation: Align the slot on the underside of the top cap with the top of the Vertical Trim and tap into place.
  8. Top Cap Adjustment: Ensure the Connector Top Cap is flush with the Panel Top Cap; adjust by loosening and retightening bolts if necessary.
  9. Securing Trim: Use Traxx Loc Brackets to secure the bottom and beltline of the Connector Trim to the frame.
  10. Electrical Orientation Note: For single-sided beltline electrical, ensure the wider slots in the Mid Support Rail face the side receiving the tech tile.

Tools Required for Installation:

  • Cordless Drill/Driver
  • 3/16" Allen Bit
  • #2 Phillips Bit
  • Tape Measure
  • Level (Cross Line Laser Level recommended, large hand level acceptable)
  • Pry Bar (for leveling)

The document emphasizes the importance of proper installation for product performance and directs users to Kimball Office Customer Care for any questions.
