This document is a customer information leaflet for the Kinder Valley Natural Palm Moses Basket, an individually handmade nursery product designed for infants. The leaflet provides essential information regarding the product's function, usage, assembly, and maintenance, emphasizing safety and care.
The Moses basket serves as a portable and comfortable sleeping space for a baby. It is designed for use by a child who cannot sit unaided, roll over, or push themselves up on their hands or knees, with a maximum weight limit of 9kg. The basket is intended for use on a firm, horizontal, level, and dry surface, and it is crucial to ensure that other children do not play near it. For overnight sleeping, it is recommended to replace the quilt with a blanket that can be tucked in.
The basket is handcrafted in Morocco by skilled artisans using Dwarf Palm leaves collected from the Atlas and Rif mountains. The leaves are woven and dried directly into the shape of the basket, a process that takes one artisan two days per basket. This traditional craftsmanship has been employed for centuries, originally for transport and storing goods, and has evolved to meet modern nursery needs. Each basket undergoes rigorous testing to British standards by an international testing company in the UK, and further re-inspection and testing are conducted before processing and dispatch to ensure the baby's safety. The sales of these baskets contribute to the employment of thousands of families in Morocco.
Key usage features include the importance of secure handles. Before lifting the Moses basket, the carer must ensure both handles are secure in their hand. Flexible carrying handles should never be left inside the carry cot. The head of the child in the carry cot should never be lower than the body of the child. The basket is not suitable for carrying a baby while in motion.
Regarding the mattress, if purchased separately, it must fit well into the product, and the depth from the top of the side of the product should not be less than 170mm when the mattress is in use. No additional mattress should be added, nor should another mattress be placed on top of the provided or recommended one. For replacement mattresses, customers are advised to contact Kinder Valley.
If the Moses basket is intended for use with a stand, it is essential to verify that the stand is the appropriate size to accommodate the base of the basket. The base size should be between 700-835mm in length and 300-370mm in width.
The leaflet also provides detailed instructions for assembling the hood. The hood can be adjusted to any desired angle by tightening the screws located at the joint of the hood. To assemble the hood, first, thread the two hood supports through the fabric hood on the underside, with one supporting the front and one supporting the middle. Next, place the screws on the inside of the basket, one on each side, in one of the holes near the handle. Then, place the holes at the ends of both supports onto the screws, ensuring the front support goes on first, followed by the middle support, to prevent the straps from crossing over. Fit the nut onto the screw from the outside of the basket, tightening it to the desired position for the hood. Finally, use the elastic loops to hook over the nuts on both sides of the basket, tuck the ends of the canopy over, and pull the back fabric of the hood over the basket to create the canopy. To disassemble the hood, these steps should be followed in reverse.
Maintenance features are clearly outlined. For the basket itself, it should be sponged lightly with warm water and mild detergent. The mattress, if necessary, should be washed by hand in warm water and mild detergent, then dried away from direct heat or sunlight. It should not be tumble dried or dry cleaned. All covers, including the dressing, are washable, and it is recommended to wash them at 30°C with a fabric softener to achieve the best results. The basket should be stored in a cool, dry place when not in use.
Due to the handmade nature of each Moses basket and the natural Palm leaves, slight variations in size and color may occur. Regular inspection of the handles and the bottom of the basket for signs of damage and wear is recommended to ensure continued safety.
The product complies with BSEN 1466:2014 standards. All packaging should be disposed of safely after use. The leaflet also provides contact information for Kinder Valley, including an email address and a telephone number for customer inquiries.
