Electrical: A 115-Volt, 60-Hz., AC-only 15- or
20-amp fused, grounded electrical supply is
required. It is recommended that a separate circuit
serving only your refrigerator be provided. Use an
outlet that cannot be turned off by a switch. Do not
use an extension cord.
NOTE: Before performing any type of installation,
cleaning, or removing a light bulb, turn the control
(Thermostat, Refrigerator or Freezer control
depending on the model) to OFF and then
disconnect the refrigerator from the electrical
source. When you are finished, reconnect the
refrigerator to the electrical source and reset the
control (Thermostat, Refrigerator or Freezer
control depending on the model) to the desired
setting.
Water: A cold water supply with water pressure
between 30 and 120 psi (207 and 827 kPa) is
required for the water dispenser and ice maker.
IMPORTANT: The pressure of the water supply
coming out of a reverse osmosis system going to
the water inlet valve of the refrigerator needs to be
between 30 and 120 psi (207 and 827 kPa).
If a reverse osmosis water filtration system is
connected to your cold water supply, the water
pressure to the reverse osmosis system needs to
be a minimum of 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa).

your refrigerator has an ice maker, allow extra space at the back for the water line

Normal minimum cabinet cut-out width required for product installation is 36"

ability to remove the crisper pans is desired, an additional 18" (45.72 cm) of cabinet
width is required, so a total cabinet opening width of 54" (137.16 cm) is
recommended.
NOTE: Do not install the refrigerator near an oven, radiator, or other heat source, nor
in a location where the temperature will fall below 55°F (13°C).

Overview

This document provides detailed information for the installation and use of a KitchenAid Side by Side Refrigerator. It covers electrical and water supply requirements, location guidelines, and general operational notes.

Function Description

The KitchenAid Side by Side Refrigerator is designed to store food items at controlled temperatures, offering both refrigeration and freezing capabilities. It includes a water dispenser and an ice maker, requiring a cold water supply connection. The side-by-side configuration provides separate compartments for fresh food and frozen items, accessible via two distinct doors.

Usage Features

Electrical Requirements: The refrigerator requires a dedicated 115-Volt, 60-Hz, AC-only electrical supply, fused at 15 or 20 amps, and grounded. It is strongly recommended to use a separate circuit for the refrigerator to prevent overloading and ensure consistent power. The outlet should not be controlled by a switch, and an extension cord should never be used. This ensures stable operation and prevents accidental power interruptions that could affect food preservation.

Water Supply Requirements: For the water dispenser and ice maker to function correctly, a cold water supply with a pressure between 30 and 120 psi (207 and 827 kPa) is necessary. If a reverse osmosis water filtration system is connected to the cold water supply, the pressure to the reverse osmosis system itself must be a minimum of 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa). It is crucial that the pressure of the water supply coming out of the reverse osmosis system, going to the refrigerator's water inlet valve, also remains within the 30 to 120 psi (207 to 827 kPa) range. Maintaining these pressure levels is vital for the proper operation of the water and ice dispensing features.

Location Requirements: Proper installation is key to the refrigerator's performance and longevity. To ensure adequate ventilation, a minimum of 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) of space must be left on each side and at the top of the refrigerator. Additionally, 1 inch (2.54 cm) of space is required behind the refrigerator. If the unit includes an ice maker, extra space at the back may be needed for water line connections. When installing the refrigerator next to a fixed wall, a minimum of 2 inches (5.08 cm) of space on each side is necessary to allow the doors to swing open fully, depending on the specific model. This clearance is critical for accessing the interior and removing components like crisper pans.

The normal minimum cabinet cut-out width for installation is 36 inches (91.44 cm). However, if the refrigerator is placed against an extended wall and the user wishes to remove the crisper pans, an additional 18 inches (45.72 cm) of cabinet width is recommended, bringing the total cabinet opening width to 54 inches (137.16 cm). This extra width facilitates easy removal and cleaning of internal components.

It is important not to install the refrigerator near heat sources such as an oven or radiator, as this can affect its cooling efficiency and increase energy consumption. Furthermore, the refrigerator should not be placed in a location where the ambient temperature could fall below 55°F (13°C), as this can impair its ability to maintain proper internal temperatures.

Maintenance Features

Pre-Maintenance Disconnection: Before performing any installation tasks, cleaning, or replacing a light bulb, it is imperative to turn the refrigerator or freezer control (thermostat) to the OFF position, depending on the specific model. Following this, the refrigerator must be disconnected from its electrical source. This safety measure prevents electrical shock and ensures that the appliance is completely powered down during maintenance. Once the task is completed, the refrigerator should be reconnected to the electrical source, and the control (thermostat) should be reset to the desired setting. This procedure ensures both user safety and the proper functioning of the appliance after maintenance.
