This document describes the Kogan SmarterHome™ 1.7L Smart Kettle (Stainless Steel), model KASMTSSKTLA, a smart kettle designed for boiling water and maintaining specific temperatures, with both manual and app-controlled operation.

Function Description:

The Kogan SmarterHome™ 1.7L Smart Kettle is a modern appliance designed for heating water. It offers both manual operation via buttons on its base and smart control through the Kogan SmarterHome™ app. Key functions include boiling water to 100°C, setting specific target temperatures (70°C, 80°C, 90°C, 100°C), and a "Keep Warm" mode to maintain a desired temperature for up to one hour. The smart features allow for remote control, scheduling, and notifications via a connected smartphone app, as well as voice control through Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The kettle is equipped with safety features such as boil-dry protection, which automatically turns off the kettle if it operates without water, and alerts for when the kettle is removed from its base.

Usage Features:

Manual Operation:

  • Power Button: Turns the kettle on/off and initiates Wi-Fi connection.
  • Temperature Buttons: Allows selection of preset temperatures (70°C, 80°C, 90°C, 100°C).
  • Keep Warm Button: Activates or deactivates the keep-warm function.
  • Boiling Water:
    1. Place the kettle on the power base.
    2. Open the lid, fill with water (between MIN and MAX levels), and close the lid.
    3. Plug into a power outlet.
    4. Select a preset temperature (70°C, 80°C, 90°C, 100°C). The power button and selected temperature indicator light will illuminate, and heating will begin.
    5. Once the target temperature is reached, the indicator lights turn off.
    6. Lift the kettle from the power base and pour.
  • Keep-Warm Mode:
    1. The appliance enters keep-warm mode after water is heated to a preset temperature for up to one hour.
    2. Select a preset temperature (70°C, 80°C, 90°C) and press the keep warm button for more than 3 seconds, then press the power button. The kettle will start heating to 100°C.
    3. After reaching 100°C, it will cool to the selected temperature and keep warm for one hour.
    4. The kettle will reheat if the water temperature drops 3°C below the preset temperature during keep-warm mode.
    5. Removing the kettle from the power base for less than 3 minutes during keep-warm mode will allow it to resume the function upon replacement.
    6. Pressing the power button or keep warm button stops the keep-warm process.

SmarterHome™ App Operation:

  • Installation and Registration: Download the "Kogan SmarterHome" app, register an account, and create a profile.
  • Pairing Mode:
    • The kettle may automatically enter pairing mode (Wi-Fi indicator blinking rapidly) upon first power-on.
    • If not, press and hold the 100°C temperature button for over 3 seconds until the Wi-Fi indicator blinks rapidly.
  • Adding Device (Network Mode):
    1. In the app, tap "+" to add a new device.
    2. Select "Kitchen Appliances > Kettles".
    3. Confirm the Wi-Fi indicator is blinking rapidly and tap "Confirm light is rapidly blink".
    4. Enter Wi-Fi details (must be a 2.4GHz network).
    5. The app will connect to the device.
    6. Rename the device and assign a location.
  • Adding Device (AP Mode - for troubleshooting):
    1. If network mode fails, select "Other Mode" and then "AP Mode".
    2. Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds until the Wi-Fi indicator blinks slowly.
    3. Confirm the indicator is blinking slowly.
    4. Enter Wi-Fi details.
    5. Connect your phone to the kettle's Wi-Fi hotspot (e.g., "SmartLife_XXXX").
    6. Return to the app to complete pairing.
  • Temperature Measurement Conversion: Switch between °C and °F in the app's temperature settings.
  • Add to Home Screen: Create a shortcut on your smartphone's home screen for quick access to the kettle's control interface.
  • Change Kettle Name: Edit the kettle's name in the app settings.
  • Share Device Control: Share control of the kettle with other registered Kogan SmarterHome™ users.
  • App Notifications and Alerts:
    • Kettle Leave Alert: Notifies if the kettle is removed from the power base, preventing app operation.
    • Boil-dry Alert: Notifies if the kettle operates without water, automatically turning it off. To reset, hold the 100°C button for 3 seconds, reconnect via app, and refill with cool water.
  • Wake-up Function and Scheduling: Schedule specific times for the kettle to start boiling.
  • Wake-up Notifications: Receive notifications when a scheduled task starts or completes.
  • Temperature Memory Function: The kettle remembers the last temperature setting when removed from the base or reconnected after power off.
  • Temperature Button Indicators: Corresponding indicators on the power base illuminate for 70°C, 80°C, 90°C, or 100°C when selected via the app.
  • Keep-Warm Function on the App: Turn keep-warm on/off and set the maximum keep-warm temperature to 95°C via the app.
  • Wi-Fi Memory Feature: Automatically reconnects to the last connected Wi-Fi network after power off.

Voice Commands (via Google Home / Amazon Alexa):

  • Switch On/Off: "Turn on the kettle" / "Turn off the kettle." The last temperature setting will be applied automatically when turned on.
  • Set the Temperature: "Set the kettle to 70°C."
  • Check the Temperature: "What is the current temperature of the kettle?" The kettle will respond with its set and current temperatures. Target temperature can only be changed after turning on the kettle.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Always disconnect from power and cool completely before cleaning.
    • Do not immerse the kettle, power cord, or power base in water.
    • Wipe the body with a damp cloth; avoid poisonous, chemical, steel, wooden, or abrasive cleaners to prevent gloss loss.
    • Clean the filter periodically by detaching it (pressing the tab inside the kettle) and then replacing it.
  • Removal of Mineral Deposits (Descaling):
    • Descale periodically using a commercial descaler or white vinegar.
    • Using White Vinegar:
      1. Fill with 3 cups of white vinegar and enough water to cover the bottom.
      2. Leave overnight, then discard the solution.
      3. Fill with clean water to the maximum level, boil, and discard.
      4. Repeat step 3 several times until the vinegar odor is gone.
      5. Rub any remaining stains in the spout with a damp cloth.
  • Disposal: The product should not be disposed of with household waste. Recycle responsibly to promote sustainable reuse of materials.
