10.4 Position of needles – checking / setting the baling ram

• Release needle yoke brake completely (spring force)
• Trigger the tying process manually with machine at a standstill
• Turn the needle yoke on the flywheel manually upwards in working position until the
needle tips (1) are at the height of the upper edge of the retainer in the bale channel
chamber floor
• Tighten the flywheel brake to lock the needles in this position
• Dimension “a” (baling ram front edge up to needle tip) must in this position be 60 - 90 mm
If that is not the case:
• Disassemble the universally-jointed drive shaft of the knotter gear
• Turn the baling ram on the flywheel manually in working direction (baling ram is moving
in baling direction) until dimension a = 60 - 90 mm is reached
Note
Dimension “a” must only be set in baling direction of the baling ram (see arrow in Fig.).
• Install the universally-jointed drive shaft of the knotter shaft and secure it
• Trigger the tying process again manually with machine at a standstill
• Position needles - check baling ram again
