Overview

The Kubota BX1860 ROPS Cab is a protective enclosure designed and manufactured by Tektite Manufacturing Inc. for the Kubota BX1860 tractor. This ROPS (Roll-Over Protective Structure) cab is engineered to provide both safety and protection from the elements, particularly in winter conditions. It is also compatible with Kubota BX1870, BX2360, BX2370, BX2660, and BX2670 models, though the BX1860 is the primary focus of this manual.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Kubota BX1860 ROPS Cab is to enhance operator safety by providing a robust roll-over protective structure. Beyond safety, it offers environmental protection, shielding the operator from harsh weather conditions, especially cold temperatures. The cab is designed to integrate seamlessly with the tractor, maintaining access to all controls and ensuring adequate clearance for the seat and operational components. It also incorporates features to manage the tractor's air intake, which is crucial for engine performance and cab heating.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Compatibility: Specifically designed for Kubota BX1860, and compatible with BX1870, BX2360, BX2370, BX2660, and BX2670 models.
  • Construction: Features a durable ROPS design, ensuring structural integrity in the event of a roll-over.
  • Mounting: Utilizes front and rear mounting brackets, with specific fasteners (M14 bolts, ½" x 2" flange nuts and bolts) and washer spacers for "no loader" scenarios.
  • Torque Specifications: Isolator fasteners require 200 ft-lbs, M12 rear nuts 98 ft-lbs, and front bracket M14 fasteners 130 ft-lbs.
  • Electrical System: Wired directly to the tractor battery with a 10GA red wire to the positive side and a 10GA black wire to the negative side. Cab options are individually fused behind the switch plate.
  • Dimensions (Rear Brackets): Top plate is 5 1/16" in length for BX1860-1870 models.
  • Warranty: One year standard product warranty provided by Tektite Manufacturing Inc.

Usage Features:

  • Weather Sealing: Includes a comprehensive seal kit with various lengths of 90° and 180° weather seals for PTO selector, PTO engage, back inner RH, throttle, 3-pt lever, front wheel assist lever, and diff lock pedal openings. An under-seat upholstery piece is also provided for sealing.
  • Doors: Two removable cab doors equipped with gas shocks for easy opening and closing. The gas shocks can be unhooked for door removal.
  • Fuel Fill Assembly: A pre-assembled fuel fill assembly allows for tractor fueling from outside the cab on the rear, preventing diesel fuel leaks into the cab.
  • SMV Sign Mount: Includes an SMV (Slow Moving Vehicle) sign mount that attaches to the rear shield of the cab, ensuring visibility for highway operation.
  • Heater Kit (Optional): Integrates with the tractor's engine coolant system to provide heating. Requires routing 3/8" ID hoses from the heater through the floorboard to open engine fittings.
  • Winter Front Kit (Optional): A removable winter front (quilted cover) designed to block the air intake screen, forcing fresh air into the engine from below the tractor to reduce cold air entry into the cab during winter. This must be removed in warm weather to prevent engine overheating.
  • Ventilation: Side windows and doors can be removed in summer to ensure adequate fresh air for the engine, as the tractor's air intake draws from underneath the steering wheel. In winter, a plastic panel underneath the battery can be removed to allow air intake from below the tractor, further reducing cold air in the cab.
  • Switch Plate: A central switch plate in the cab provides controls for:
    • Front Wiper Rocker Switch (standard)
    • Rear Wiper Rocker Switch (optional, not on all models)
    • Front Work Light Rocker Switch (optional)
    • Rear Work Light Rocker Switch (optional)
    • Front Wiper Washer Rocker Switch (optional)
    • Beacon Rocker Switch (optional)
    • Water Heater Fan Rocker Switch (optional) Each switch has an indicator light when activated.
  • Emergency Exits: The cab features two doors, either of which can serve as an emergency exit.

Maintenance Features:

  • Pre-Operation Checks: Before starting a tractor with the ROPS cab, operators must clear the platform of tools, inspect and re-tighten all bolts, ensure adequate clearance for pedals/levers/controls, and verify normal operation of all electrical components.
  • Door Latch Alignment: The door latches may require re-alignment after installation due to frame flex. This involves loosening the striker pin, mounting plate, and door latch.
  • ROPS Integrity: If the ROPS is subjected to alteration, structural damage, or an overturn accident, the entire structure must be replaced to maintain safety.
  • Electrical System Protection: All optional components are individually fused behind the cab switch plate. Operators are advised not to leave options activated when the tractor is not running to prevent battery drain.
  • Hood Shield (BX1860): The hood shield, removed during cab installation, must be re-installed from inside the cab and fastened with a washer and knob. It needs to be loosened and removed to open the tractor hood.
  • Heater System Maintenance: Requires draining and refilling engine antifreeze, and purging air from the system after heater installation.
  • Winter Front Management: The optional winter front must be removed in warm weather to prevent engine overheating.
  • Decal Maintenance: Safety decals must be kept clean, and replaced if destroyed, missing, painted over, or unreadable. Replacement decals are available from the tractor dealer.
  • Service Parts: A detailed parts list and breakdowns (windshield, rear window, side windows, doors, and cab accessories) are provided for identifying and ordering replacement components. Warranty claims should be reported to parts@tektite.ca.

The manual emphasizes safety precautions, including wearing personal protective equipment, requiring a minimum of two people and a lift assist device for installation due to the cab's weight, ensuring a well-ventilated work area, and reading the entire manual before installation and use. It also highlights the importance of using seat belts and operating the tractor from the operator's seat.
