From the parallel interface
This section explains how to download firmware data from the parallel interface.
The engine and controller firmware data are downloaded using the same command. The printer system can
automatically recognize whether the data is overwritten for the engine or the controller firmware.
CAUTION Downloading the controller firmware takes several minutes. Do not turn
power off during downloading.
NOTE The computer that MS-DOS is usable is necessary for a download from parallel interface. It is
necessary for a computer to be connected to a printer with a parallel cable.
Confirm that the status page shows the new engine firmware or controller firmware version (See Appendix B on page B-4).
If the message display indicates Call service personDn (n=0, 1, ...), refer to section Downloading errors on page 3-20.

At the DOS prompt, send the
following command to the
printer:
>ECHO !R! UPGR'SYS';EXIT;>PRN
Note: Do not add an EXIT;
command in the above.
The message display should
indicate Supervisor mode.
Copy the engine or controller
firmware data to the printer by
typing:
>COPY\B program file name PRN
Turn power on again.
Check the printer gets Ready.
Make sure the printer is Ready.
Turn power off.
Confirm that the status page
shows the new firmware
version.
Downloading is performed in
the sequence explaned in the
right-hand column.
Finished.
When more than on data are
downloaded, the data can be
selected using key or key.
